large list (http://leicestershooters.tripod.com/techniques.html)

You've caught "the submission craze" Right? This happens to every beginning bjj student that gets tapped like a typewriter just a part of the game... it sucks at first bro, trust me, but filling your head with techniques is only going to cause you to hesitate.

Position then submission! make this your mantra. make this how you grapple.

Good luck.

Thanks, I was looking for a good resource along these lines. I'm all about training a limited number of techniques (quality vs. quantity, yada yada) but it'd be nice to have a trick or two my partners aren't necessarily looking for.

This is the army's approach to that school of thought as they don't have much time.

Combatives (http://www.adtdl.army.mil/cgi-bin/atdl.dll/fm/3-25.150/toc.htm)

Please pay special note to Chapters 3-5. That is bare bones bjj/judo stuff and I think everyone should know them.

I would agree with Shaolin Tiger (though I don't do BJJ), but Ultimate Jujitsu (http://www.ultimatejujitsu.com/) has a lot of different techniques shown.

I'm surprised there's no links to bjj.org on that list

ShaolinTiger00, awesome, thanks.

To everyone else, I haven't had time to check out your links yet. I will eventually, though. But I have my MMA club in 30 minutes and I wanted to refresh my memory with the triangle choke (my friend showed me it a few days ago but I kinda forgot).

Watch, I'll learn it and tonight will be a boxing night or something.

Thanks.

Excellent manual. My Vale Tudo friend will love it.

Sooo...there's BJJ technique called "Captain Kirk"???....OK, who was the geek?? :D

...and they mock KF people because we have silly animal names...:D

Actually, it's Tomoe Nage. Cirlcle throw translated, I think.

It's not REALLY called the captain kirk, it's just a lot of people call it that because he used is so much. It's kind of like a guard break I like we've nicknamed the violator. What else do you call something where you put your shin in the other guy's taint and push their hips down to break their legs open?

Hehehehe... Good one :D

No way! "Violator" is not nearly as cool a name as "Captain Kirk". The only way you could improve upon that name is to call it something mega-cool like "The Shatner".

Kempo Guy posted a link to here (http://www.sandowplus.co.uk/Competition/Burns/lessons/lesson01.htm) on the fitness forum. It's "old school" submission fighting.

Cool links guys.

Tomoe nage is also known as "stomach throw" or with some other name maybe.
You basically grab the palīs lapels, land on your back and throw him over you with your leg(s).
Origins probably lying around jujutsu, where the throw then was adopted to judo (considering what judo is,refined jujutsu) then eventually found itīs way to hapkido, maybe karate too Iīd dare to say.
Definitely not "bjj technique" though.

Definitely not "bjj technique" though.

just as judo had few techniques that it "invented" bjj is also an art that doesn't claim to invent many techniques, but has proven to refine them to an amazing degree.

classic example the "guard" to judo it was dojime - trunk squeeze and not really noted as being special but more of a transition position. bjj turned it into an offensive/defensive weapon that can't be underestimated today.

I do not claim to know much about bjj,I was solely commenting on the throw.

tomoe nage is my brother's bread and butter. I've had success with it too. never heard it called "stomach throw" though, only "circle throw" and "monkey toss"

The Bulgerian head lock looks like a decent tech when you are bulldogging it. I have seen a naban technique like that one on the ground where you position press/ram up and break the jaw, this one looks like you could do that with force instead of a submit.
