Over the coming year, the Ving Tsun Museum will be making a study of Southern kung fu styles methods of Kiu Sau, starting with Chi Sim Weng Chun and Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun. Below is the announcement of the first workshop for this year. Find out what Southern Shaolin Kiu Sau is and how it is different from, and related to, Chi Sau. A workshop on Chi Sim is planned for May. Both workshops feature the lineage holders of the system.

Shaolin Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kiu Sau Progression Workshop

Fau Kiu Kiu Sau
Deui Ying Kiu Sau
Bong Laap Kiu Sau
Kwan Sau Kiu Sau

Come see the Kiu Sau progressions of the Shaolin Wing Chun Kung Fu System, the foundation of Chi Sau.

Kiu sau, in Chinese means bridge arm, specifically focuses on the area from the wrist to the elbow. Hung Fa Yi Kiu Sau traditionally was developed against animal systems and to counter against grappling systems.

Other approaches to kiu sau have different meanings. Some kiu sau are used as a form of forearm conditioning, such as three-star blocking. Some kiu sau are primarily motions related to the application of techniques. Hung Fa Yi kiu sau is based on concepts and strategies.

From the Hung Fa Yi Three-Track System perspective the members start with the kiu sau and progress into chi sau and saan da. Hung Fa Yi makes a clear distinction between kiu sau and chi sau where other systems do not make that same distinction.
