Folks.... I just have to say --> taijiquan is great!!! I was feeling down about it all a few months ago, but have rediscovered my enthusiasm. The more I do of it now, the more I like it. Grooviness!

Glad you like it.

The longer I study it, the more I keep using the 2nd translation of TJQ.

"Infinite polarity". rather than
"Great Supreme Fist".

:D :D

Actually, the "Great Supreme Fist" translation is probably the most incorrect and inaccurate.

In Chinese as in English, putting two words together can change their meaning. This is the way with Tai Ji Quan. If you take each character by itself, you do get the Grand Ultimate or Great Supreme Fist. However, this is sloppy translation.

Tai and Ji when combined together form something else.

Tai ji is the Grand Terminus or the concept of Yin and Yang. Put with Quan or fist, you get a style based on the principles of Yin and Yang....and ALL that such an idea encompasses.

Considering that ALL of Chinese Culture, Chinese Medicine, and so on have a very great foundation with the concepts of Yin and Yang (the Taiji), this would lead one to think that the concpets embodied in Taijiquan are equally as vast.
