I got sent a MS Powerpoint slide show with some classic animal pics. This first one is my fave. :D

LOL

you know that's fake though, right? There's a site that's got all types of pics of cats stuck in glasses and jars and such.

Still love it :D.

I am thinking of posting more, but some of them aren't as good as that one.

That's not a donkey, Joe. I think it's a moose. Any canucks care to confirm?

LOL, BTW!

That's definitely a moose. I used to see 'em walking around the parks in winter when I lived in Alaska.

You lived in Alaska?

Only for about 7 years, all told, including all of high school.

Wow. What was it like living up there?

Cold, boring, 20 hours of darkness for much of the winter. The pot sure was strong, though.

I'm never going back, except maybe at gunpoint.

Ah well, at least the pot was good.

Yeah - Alaska has lots going for it. Highest alcoholism rate in the US, highest incest rate in the US, highest suicide rate in the US. Highest cost of living for communities for their size in the US. Nothing to speak of in the way of art, music, or literature. The biggest city is a podunk town in the middle of nowhere, and not like a regular podunk town in the middle of nowhere. If you're in say, Abiline, you can drive to Dallas in a couple of hours. In Anchorage, you're a 12 hour plane flight to Vancouver or Seattle.

Boy, that pot was good, though.

Australia has a place that's a bit like that. It's called Darwin, only it's sub-tropical rather than freezing.

(Darwinians are likely to flood out of lurker-dom and slam me for that!)

Still, from what you say, the pot was strong for a reason.

Sure. In the summer, you have 20 hours of daylight, and the god**** state is so spread out you can grow it outdoors with minimal fear of discovery. Plus, the volcanic plains in places like the Matanuska Susitna valley are incredibly fertile. Look up largest examples of different produce in a Guinness book of world records sometime - they're all from around there because of the freakish growing conditions. And hell, for years the weed was legal anyway.

My fiance wants us to live there for a year or so. She thinks Alaska is cool. I will forward some of your quotes to her to try and dissuade her :D

Watched a little too much Northern Exposure, did she?

joedoe

No actually. She is pretty keen on travelling - she grew up travelling all over the world and she thinks it is a good way to live. She seems to like cold climate places (she has visited Antarctica, and spent 7 months near Harbin in China) and thinks that Alaska is a beautiful place. She also heard that there are tax breaks etc. for people willing to go and work in Alaska so she figured it would be a good way to see the place and earn some money as well.

I probably wouldn't mind it for a year but I have so many commitments here.
