If i wanted to be able to do 50 chin ups at once but at the moment i can only do about 15 would i be better off doing as many as i can then take a rest then do as many again and slowly build up to 50 at once. or do 50 asisted ones and slowly reduce the amount of resistance i use.

Would the same apply to say squats and bench presses?

Ladders:

Basically do 1, rest the amount of time it takes to do 1, 2, rest for 2, 3, etc... up to a max. Then start from 1 again and start building up.

Do 3-4 ladders 2-3x/week. You will eventually build up to being able to do 50.

Density Training:

(I generally like this approach better than ladders)

Come up with a time frame. Say 10 minutes...

Set a timer and at the start of every minute do 5 pull-ups. After 10 minutes, you will have done 50. Do this while decreasing time and increasing reps until you are doing 50 in 5 minutes. (10 at the start of every minute)

From this point, you will want to start to condense your rest times. Ie do 10 pull-ups at the start of every 45 sec second, then 35, then 30. Eventually, you will be doing 50 in a row.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need me to explain it better.
