Hi Guys,

I glanced over some the previous topics and didn't see what I was looking for. If this question has been answered before, sorry.

Anyways, I have been seeing this infomericial in which a guy goes from a push-up like position (in which his body is parallel to the ground being held up by his hand) to a hand stand.

I was quite impress with the body control involved. Anyways, I was wondering if anyone on the board can suggest any exercise which help to develop this kind of body control. I figure I need to work on the trunk area, but I am not sure how to start.

Thanks

You need to do many pushups against the wall, and angled all the way down till you are parallel. Apart from that, the rest is balance. If you tilt your head forwards, your torso will automatically flip up. I sometimes practise using chairs, and placing both palms on each side because I am not strong enough to push up into a full hand stand.

Have a friend who can sit down, put his palms on the floor, push all the way up into a hand stand, then... get this... clap his hands and land back in the handstand.

Then again, he is known to be the strongest climber in all of Australia so, hehehe no suprises.

Also, strengthening your abdominals helps with "trunk" control (also called the core). There are more exercises to strengthen the abs than I can list, but essentially you want to 1) crunch, 2)twist, 3) sit up.

dead lifts, squats, and over-head squats are great for strengthening the core.

Maybe hanging pikes:

abobo,

those will do it, too, as long as he doesn't swing up. Nice!

hanging will get your grip strong, and as well as the trunk?
How long would one do it for?

Guile,

It's not just hanging. You hang and do leg lifts, without swinging your body--just lifting your legs toward your head. Most people can only get their legs about waist high, though.

Oh ok I get it.
Those are hard to get up to the head!
Is there a link on t-mag for that?

Those pictures came from the Renegade bodybuilding article. Scroll about half way down the page and you'll see the whole sequence.
