What's K-1?

I was just thinking about San shou, and I remembered this other type of competition I'd heard of called K-1. I noticed it's becoming pretty popular with big pay per view events and even video games coming out, but what are the rules? Is it pretty much straight kickboxing, or is it closer to San Shou?

I think K-1 is the name of this rad conversion where they take a Honda Accord and change it into a mid-engine sports car.
