frog horse stand

I was reading the new KUNG FU QIGONG and noticed something very interesting. On page 41 Lore Sifu is standing in a frog horse stand. this caught my eye because I have never seen this stance before in all the MA's I have studied. I would like to know if anyone can give me more insight on this stance and it's applications in use.

Lore sifus style is old style Hung Gar.

I did the same stance in hung gar I trained in a while back.

It was taught to me as a crane stance.

and, no bs, I had to walk down a creek in that stance.
