Caradhas is the mountain the Fellowship try to get over. In the movie, it's the scene where Legolas is walking on top of the snow. They're forced to turn back and go through the Mines instead.

In the book, it's made pretty clear that the mountain is aware, and maliciously inclined.

The wolf from the Silmarillion that KC is thinking of is Carcharoth.
