I beleive this to be a CIA plot to destabilize the Taliban by making Bin Laden an object of ridicule.

NOT !!! :D

Actually, it's a subliminal message to binLaden followers around the world - "you are all my puppets! bwahahahaha!!"

The theory going around now is that that callage of bin laden pictures was made by searching the internet. They searched, and by accident got the "evil bert" picture alongside bin laden. Apparently they didn't double-check the pictures before they printed the signs.

How can terrorists be so clever, and yet so stupid?

Al Quaeda's reach extends even to the Children's Television Workshop. I heard that Elmo, the number 3, and the letter W were inquiring about renting a street cleaner last week.

I think Mr. Nemo is correct. It's the fasted and cheapest way to transmit pictures by using the internet. Which mans they are probably surfing the western web up there in the mountains. They were not so much stupid as just ignorant of culture. The inability to see it was probably due to fundamentalism attitude and lacking a sense of humor. As such, one with a sense of humour aand not so rigid would have noticed something odd even if they didn't know bert.

update: Here's the proof:
"Azad Products, who manufactures the poster was not aware of the appearance of Bert in one of the collaged images that make up the poster. ``We got the images through e-mails and off the internet. We did not give the pictures a second look or realize what they signified until you pointed it to us,'' Mostafa Kamal, production manager, told The Associated Press. Sesame Street or Bert are hardly known in Bangladesh. (AP Photo/Pavel Rahman)"
