Just too proud to deny it... Katrina Leung, one of the instructors from the Shou-Yu Liang Wushu Taiji Qigong Institute, was featured on episode five of Black Sash as the character named Jade.

She did a great Di Tan/Longfist pseudo form - and we are proud!:)

I think wong represents a kungfu teacher in the series who happens to also teach Pa Kua, (not uncommon).

So, I don't think having Kungfu fundamentals taught in a class (fictitious or real) that is Pa Kua or Tai Chi will be a detriment. (unless of course you don't have correct fundamentals and then you just look silly trying to teach them so it's easier to be cool with some weird esoteric art that no one can question your basics on :D )

cheers

My guess is he's supoded to be teaching a number of arts, thats why his school is called a "Martial arts" school, and not a Bagua school. It's clear his Teacher and he are Bagua specialists, but we can clearly see Long Fist as well.

If this was a "Real" school, my guess is he teaches Long Fist to start, and Bagua to his "Black Sash's" (pun intended) :D

Has anybody ever noticed that his weight room is up above the training floor. One dumbell rolls off and bang-o!

I've seen plenty of "for real" gyms, dojos and kwoons that are not 100% safe too.

Just think of all the 10 year olds running around in a school where weapons are loose on the rack!

just think of all the 10 year kids out there being encouraged to punch each other in the head.

I'd take my chances with weights on a riser :D
hahahahahaha. (sarcasm hopefully noted)

cheers

....Katrina Leung- she's got skills. In more ways than one.

What kills the show are the teenagers inability to actually do gung fu. Its painful to watch. And the choreography sucks. Russell has done mucho better in MA type flicks.

But...it is nice to see a MA flick on the idiot box..ever since Sammo refused to work since the studio struck the free fried chicken snacks clause inbetween takes out of his contract.

Oh..and anythang beats Kung Fu - The Next Generation. Ugh.

I haven't seen the show yet, no access to WB here. :D

Of course the choreography will be worse than for a full-length movie.

Some fight scenes I have seen in movies took weeks to choreograph and train.
Now in a TV-Series where they produce 1 episode per week(methinks) they neither have the time nor the budget for it.

Plus, Movie actors tend to spend a few months getting into shape and training MA for their part.
Actors like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, etc work with their own team day in and day out.

Cheers.

Royal Dragon, I concur.

I don't see what the kids were complaining about. I bet that instructor took into notice that all of the students were young and capable of enduring such things like horse stance and 3 star drills, of which both are promotional towards martial skill anyways.

I admit throwing people on wood floor can be harsh, but the guy, regardless of his bad intentions, was right. A mat could fix that right up. To be effective you have to train realistically. In my master's dojo, we are encouraged to attack without holding back and as if we are actually throwing a punch or a kick, or whatever at somebody.

Nah, he's got two fairly new students who are practicing bagua. My guess is he offers various arts and bagua is one of them. Either that, or he teaches a blended system that integrates bagua as one of it's staple arts.

Look at a guy called Tim Cartmell (Shenwu.com), he teaches about 15 different styles (knows all internals) and bjj. He even has a class called shenwu where he teaches everything at once.

Not to mention he claims bjj is a neija (internal style).

It's kinda funny - Our site has had a HUGE boost in traffic because some 49 year old Chinese spy (who just happens to have the same name as one of our top instructors) got caught.

Go figure...

Hi, folks,
I've heard rumors that the WB is cancelling Black
Sash. When I checked the WB website, I found the Black
Sash page had been deleted, and a rerun of an old
Charmed episode being slated instead this coming Sunday. What a disappointment.

While I enjoy the show, and I'm hoping that the series lasts, I feel like I'm rooting for an underdog. It's great to see the martail art I study on TV. Although my standards are high, and some of what they are doing on the show is technically a bit hollow/shallow, I'm grateful that they don't use goofy, overdone, tired flying-on-wires stunts!! Also, Black Sash is MUCH better than David Carradine pretending to be Chinese, and a martial arts master on top of that from the old "Kung Fu" series...

So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed and hoping the home team can survive the 6 episode trial they're signed to, but it looks like the WB has dropped the show after only the 4th episode has been aired?!? I hope they would at least try to air the show in a different time-slot before deciding to cancel it.

Even though no one on the show looked like masters performing, I feel it's realistic and a good thing that they aren't all bagua super-freaks. While there was a bit too much contemporary-wushu-flash-&-trash/posing for me, I realize it's TV, and glitz sells. Also, while it is traditinal Bagua someone is showing the actors, and thier
execution isn't perfect, I've seen "famous" instructors in person look worse. I've been looking forward to seeing the characters/actors
continue to improve...but if the show's already cancelled, what
a let down.

I do like some of the character development going on progressively on the show, and the emphasis on Wu-De (martial morality) is very refreshing. There's definately some potential, but to be fair, they are promoting Bagua & martial arts in general in a positive light, and they are making an honest effort. The show is a lot better than other popular programming on TV, so I'm asking anyone that is interested to email the programming contact at the WB, faces@talk.thewb.com , and ask them please don't drop Black Sash without giving the show an honest chance.

Sincerely,
Dennis Mace

Ok, here's the story on that one. When Buffy first came out, i wanted to watch it because...........well........there was a ditzy hottie running around kicking butt.

Anyway, the problem is Terri is a super jeleaious woman, and would not hear of letting me watch this show, because she knew it was lame, and I only wanted to veiw the eye candy, so I avoided it like the plague for no other reason than to avoid fights. Well, by the next season, she had forgotten all about it, and accidentally discovered the show one nght, and decided to check it out. It was funny, because she was going on and on about this reallyu cool new show totally forgetting the war we had ove rit the season before.

Then, she got totally hooked, and now everytime it's on, rerun or not, I have to watch it. No granted, it's cool and all, but my God, why do we have to suffer through an episode we've seen 20 frik'n times???

Anyway, Buffy is suposed to be this Lame, goofy show that's basically about hotties running around getting violent. As it matured, it got darker, and thus better and less lame, but still, the heart of it is really lame stupidity (Enjoyable lame stupidity, but hey) My point, if THAT show can have the run it has, Black Sash should be able to have a go of it.
