View Full Version : whats your favourite shaolin demonstration?

07-10-2001, 04:32 PM
i've seen loads of monk tricks and qigong demonstrations on t.v and when i went to see them perform in the shaolin wheel of life.

i was just wondering what your favourite demonstrations where.

mine would have to be the two finger hand stand and pushing a car with a spear against their throat. whats yours?

When I saw Yan Ming break two separated 2" concrete and stone slabs. I didn't think he could do it, but he did....

Those things are impressive, don't get me wrong- but what I like best is to see a master do a form where you can feel the air crackle with his/her power...

I like the one where the monk lies on top of the single spike and his mates spin him round for a minute - did you see the mark in his stomach - oocha!!! Mental.

I don't have a specific instance but I'd have to agree, all qigong and 'tricks' (i don't mean anything prejorative by that) aside just seeing a master do a form is amazing.

I liked the '98 tour. It's the only one I have seen in person. :(

The monkey forms are great. Impressive, agile and entertaining! They'd have to be my favourite.

The first time I saw this form was performed by Shi Heng Xin over at The Shaolin Temple in Flushing NY.

The explosive power combined with flexiblity has got to be the most impressive form I have ever seen. Flipping three times off the head. Flipping in a seated position, or simply falling straight back without fear of hurting oneself is simply a site to behold.

golden egg, now that's impressive!

kyu Yu cheong did some wicked stuff too, but he wasn't a monk. He is considered the founder of the style Bak Sil Lum though.

My fav demo would be to see real shaolin warrior-monks doing real martial gong fu stuffs and not things that gymnasts or circus acrobats can do...needless to say, I'm still waiting...

Kung Lek, you confuse me...wasn't Ku Yu Cheong (Guo Yun Shen) a major XingYi master (instructor of Wang Xiang Zhai among others), that was on the side proficient in some shaolin techniques as well?
I never heard he founded any style, especially bak sil lum (wouldn't bak sil lum just be northern shaolin techniques practiced in the suth where they would receive cantonese names?).
That's not important anyway...

I'm guessing you do, but did the fans of the two finger handstand ever see Shoalin Kung fu documentary, where the old guy does the one finger handstand?
