Why does Chan Yiu Min use the name Weng Chun and not Wing Chun ? And were did he get all of the strange forms in his systems ?

Curriculum includes Siu Nian (Little Training), Hung Sha Sao (Red Sand Palm), Fook Fu (Subduing Tiger), Chum Kiu (Seeking Bridge), Biu Jee (Thrusting Finger), Fut Jeung (Buddha Palm), Fa Kuen (Flower Fist), Huen Sao (Circling hand), Chi Sao (Sticky Hand), Long Bench Form, Spear Form, Double-headed Pole Form, Sword Form, Double Knives Form, Wooden Dummy Form, Luk Dim Boon Gwun (Six and a half point Pole Form) and Lion Dancing.

And these other strange forms or techniques that sifu Tam Biu knows
More than four decades of hard practicing and training, Sifu Tam becomes a great kung fu master. His Weng Chun skill is very unique, especially the Lin Wan Kau Da Sao (chain simultaneous attacking and defending techniques), Leung Yee Chiu Geng Sao (two moves mirroring hand techniques), Fan Kum Na (anti-grappling) and Yee Ying Da Ying (Counter-attacking opponent's structure). In order to spread Weng Chun, Sifu Tam has been teaching in Guangzhou, Zhaoqing, Jiangmen, Shenzhen and Guangxi over a few hundreds of people

Hi,

I don't know for sure where the other forms come from. Fuk Fu is probably a Hung Gar form, and Choy Li Fut has a Buddah palm form. People seem to think lineages are pure and that this system or that one only contains this or that forms. In reality, many people learned many styles or picked things up here and there. Cheung Lai Chun (Bak Mei) learned Gypsie and Dragon style before learning Bak Mei, which includes many forms from various systems. Cheung Hueng (Choy Li Fut) learned from 3 masters. Decendants like Tarn San included some northern Shaolin, and Lee Hung Koong picked things up from several different styles. Wong Fei Hong, Lam Sai Wing, and Lum Jo are all noted for adding several styles to Hung Gar. In fact, most of Hung Gar weapons are borrowed. And I could go on. Many people have a large set of styles that is included in their system based on their experience. Pan Nam and Cho Family for example has many extras thrown in. Gee Shim Weng Chun, if I remember correctly, had a wide range in different styles.

Any ways, According to Leung Ting's book roots of wing chun, he says Chiu Chow learned Hung Gar and a Buddhist kung fu from a monk before he learned wing chun from Chan Yu Min. If that is the same line, that probably accounts for it. No doubt he continued some of the training. I wish there was more of this system availible for public viewing.
