been meaning to do this since last week.

If you don't know who Nina Simone is and give a shizt about music than look her up.

She died last week at the age of 70 from cancer.

Born close to home here in Tryon, NC. Educated some in Asheville.

Expatriated to France due to racism.

I first became aware of her by her soundtrack to the movie "Point of No Return" w/ Bridget Fonda.

This was brought up in the got qi thread, but still well worth another mention.

A terrible loss - she was a brilliant talent.

If you've got a spare week or two then read it from the start.

Otherwise just jump in and join the party!

Yeah, gotta give props to Nina Simone. There's just so much singing a person can do in a lifetime, but she did all of hers.

I came pretty close to meeting her a couple of years ago, when she played at UT's Bass Concert Hall. We have a program where student artists are matched up with performers to give a gift of their artwork, and a teacher of mine at the time was assigned to make the matches. It works out well for everybody. I wasn't selected (although I was in the final running) but if I had been, I could've boasted that my work was in her collection, and I'd have had a nifty photo taken of us at the presentation and everything. As it happened, a gal named Scarlett I had the hots for got the privelege.

Ah well, it's just a bunch of coulda woulda shoulda now.

I need some Black Coffee.

Did you get to root Scarlett though?

No. But her boyfriend uses two bananas. And Chang-style only uses one.

Pretty simple really.

Poor Nina.
