Just to get it in perspective.

Would you study with someone who was covered with long hair and wool?

Would you study with someone who constantly and consistently made the point of saying moooooooooooo?

Or how about the critter who thinks that the sure-footedness on mountain trails is always the answer and solution to problems?

Could you learn from this animal?

Good Idea? Bad Idea?

I think you could learn from anything if you have enough imagination... Did't Drucken Boxing come from getting monkeys drunk then watching them fight?

Imitation styles are great, but hey we have to stay within some limits. Obviously we're not going to start maneuvering like worms. :D

I'm not sure about Drunken Monkey boxing, but the Eight Drunken Immortals form has a Taoist background and is not AFAIK an imitation of drunken monkeys.

BTW, I thought Shaolin-Do had a Yak in their lineage.

They're pretty tasty though... if you're ever in Lhasa, Tibet go to the Lhasa Hotel next to Norbulingka Palace. They have a restaurant there (all kidding aside) named "The Hard Yak Cafe" that's obviusly styled after a Hard Rock, but uses movie imagery instead. Anyway, get a Yak Burger. It's really pretty good. Stay away though from the yak butter steeped tea... blyech!

I would learn from a Yak, if I thought he or she was a good teacher.

For instance, I don't want a teacher who is a yak of all trades and master of none.

I would be concerned if he played favorites by cattling certain students.

I'd want to know if he could make a gnu-man out of me.

I wouldn't like to study with a teacher who was cowed by full contact.

I'd also be concerned that he not buffalo me into learning unrealistic skills.

PS: I apologize deeply for this post, and this entire thread.

No amount of apologizing will ever wash out the shame.

Ah, if only I had been doing my paperwork.
