"That's a particular problem because concussions can be hard to diagnose -- and if you get banged around again before you've fully healed and you can suffer potentially deadly brain swelling. "
Yup, that's what happened to me...
I didn't lose concioussness, just felt woozy and unable to continue. Two weeks later, doing light sparring, took a couple hits and got the brain swelling - fortunately not requiring the 'ole drill a hole in the skull....
Have fun but be careful

Decent article,depression link was news.
This merely confirms other studies, concussions are to be taken seriously, even though consequences are not always entirely visible to naked eye.

Wow, thats interesting...
Three or four concussions, but you have to ask the question in the nfl, how many go unreported. Seems like an interesting tid bit though, thanks for the article.

A former student of mine played alot of hockey as a teen. He was real good. So good, in fact that they let him play with adults. Big mistake. He recieved so many concussions that he now has seizure disorder. If he gets hit in the head, he can go into seizure and possibly die. He can also go into seizure fron hypoglycemia. He once had a siezure and I was cradeling his head in my lap until it passed. We stabilized his blood sugar and drove him home. Scared the bejesus outta me. Last I heard, he was still practicing martial arts. What people don't realize, is that at this point, even holding a kicking shield is dangerous. A really strong kick will still snap your head back enough to cause trauma.
