Hi Guys,

Having zero background in taiji, I like to ask a question about "stickness".

I often hear stories about how when pushing hand with good taiji guy, the other person often can't lift his hand away. Something like although my arm was on top of his, but I still can't lift my arm away.

Why? What kind of mechanical principle is at work here? Do taiji guys use glue when the other guy isn't looking? :)

2 Ways this can work.

1/ the Tai Chi guy follows your hand up when you try to lift it so you can never take your hand wawy from his.

2/ the tai chi guy does not just have his hand (or wrist) toutching yours but is puting some preasure on it of his own. Now if the tai chi guy is pushing against your hand then his oponent is pushing back with the same but oposite force. This makes it pshycologicaly very hard to move the hand away as it feels like that hand is controling the oposing hand.
