From Sifu Augustine Fong's website:

"Gwai sut = a downward knee block contacting with the side of the knee or shin"

I'm wondering what the use is of this block? I may have seen a similar motion demonstrated once....

Replies will be appreciated

Fajing-I dont know what you saw exactly, since I have not checked the site for a while,
BUT-
1, For practicing the motion- the mok jong or working with the do can help.

2. There are chi gerk timing things that can be done.

3. Re applications if practice and timing are good-

Two of many possible examples-

a. can be used for breaking a weightbearing knee at close quarters,

b. can be used for controlling the other fellas knee or leg motion at close quarters

((there are many other possibilities))

PS Best to have some controlling connection with the other fella
when doing a or b- so that YOU have, retain or regain balance
while doing the motion.

Oh, just browsing through the terms section of the website, looking for something else. Well the motion I saw was just my Sifu demonstrating what he saw at a GM William Chueng seminar - instead of brushing a kick to the side with a vertical hanging lower leg, like he teaches us to do- apparently Sifu Chueng was covering incoming kicks by flipping his ankle up to the side and pressing with the inside of the shin.

As you pointed out, applications of such a motion can vary. But, looking at it as a "mother motion" from which many motions can be derived - this may have been in the same family of motions....

Thanks!
