paper target?

I just started doing the paper exercise, where you hang a paper in a string, and hit it, you know what I'm talking about..
So I just want to know, how do I know I do it right? How is the paper supposed to react when I hit it? if it goes *SNAP*, then I suppose I do it right...?

I heard you're supposed to put a quail egg in your hand during this exercise. If you hear the snap and the doesn't break, you are doing it right.
