School's out - Gunfire keeps gates closed for 2nd day in Arnett
published: Friday | April 30, 2004

A joint police/military party conducts a cordon and search operation on Septimus Street in Jones Town, south St. Andrew, yesterday, following an outbreak of gun violence in the area. - Rudolph Brown/Staff Photographer

THE GATES of several schools in the troubled Arnett Gardens/Jones Town communities of south St. Andrew, remained closed for the second day yesterday, following the spate of sporadic shootings between rival gun-toting gangs.

Reports are that the incident, which escalated into pitched gun battles Wednesday when scores of residents were chased out of their homes, has started to impact on students enrolled at the Charlie Smith and Trench Town high schools. These students are preparing for CXC examinations later this month.

Fear grips gang battlegrounds
published: Friday | April 30, 2004

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

THE GANG war embroiling the south St. Andrew communities of Jones Town and Arnett Gardnes, which has prevented schools there from opening for the second day, prompted Education Minister Maxine Henry-Wilson to call an emergency meeting yesterday.

When contacted, Dorett Campbell, director of communication in the Ministry, was unable to give any information about what had transpired at the meeting.

Despite being calm yesterday, sections of the community were still gripped with tension. Heavily armed members of the security forces were seen conducting raids in the community, while residents in another section barricaded themselves in, fearing reprisal attacks.

POLICE COMBING AREA

Superintendent of Police Gary Griffiths, head of the Kingston West Police Division, was seen leading from the front in the community. The officer said the police were combing the area in search of "the trouble makers".

"Today we picked up one person who has been implicated in a murder," Supt. Griffiths said.

Several other men were taken into custody and a number of motorcycles seized during the operation. The commanding officer said everything was being done to ensure that residents were comfortable in their homes.

POINT OUT THE PERPETRATORS

Reports are that on Wednesday, a number of neighbouring housing schemes were invaded by gunmen who beat and chased dozens of persons out of their homes, accusing them of being informers and spies for rival gangs.

Senior Superintendent Calvin Benjamin said if the reports are true and the victims can identify the perpetrators, they will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

At the root of the conflict between the factions is well known area leader George Phang, alias 'Pepper'. Members of the wider community have accused him of unfair dealings. Speaking with The Gleaner yesterday, Mr. Phang described the allegations against him by the various quarters as "petty jealousy".

"Me is a man all for peace," said Mr. Phang. He said that criminal elements in the wider community were "doing everything to disrupt the peace." According to Mr. Phang, several dates have been scheduled for meetings to be held with the warring factions.

Meantime, Paul Burke, former chairman of the People's National Party's Region Three, confirmed that factions in Jones Town attended a meeting Wednesday evening and that Mr. Phang pleaded with the residents of the community not to retaliate. "The matter is being dealt with by the Member of Parliament and chairman of Region Three, Dr. Omar Davies," Mr. Burke said.

wasn't there a big riot over there not so long ago? this must infect tourism no?

Starchaser107
04-30-2004, 11:13 AM
As you know 9/11 made a significant immediate impact on the airline industry worldwide. So naturally thereafter there was a decrease in the level of tourist influx, this had little to do with, what you might recall those riots, i believe it may have been in 99.

Anyway to answer your question, No. Tourism here has been steadily booming, and last year was a pretty good year as far as that goes.

Kingston / St. Andrew aren't really touristy areas. Most of the chaos that occurs takes place in Kingston/ St. Andrew, and the neighbouring parish of St. Cathrine (Spanish Town, Portmore).

which isn't to say that stuff doesn't happen elsewhere but alot of it is gang related and based in the inner city communites of the above mentioned.

- A kangaroo named Lulu is to receive a national bravery award after raising the alarm to save an Australian farmer knocked unconscious by a fallen tree branch.

Hobby farmer Leonard Richards was checking for storm damage on his property at Tanjil South, 150 km (93 miles) east of Melbourne, last September when he was hit by a falling branch.

In a story reminiscent of the long-running Australian children’s television series Skippy, in which a kangaroo rescued people in distress in the Australian bush, Lulu began barking until Richards’ wife came to investigate, said the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA).

She found her husband lying unconscious under a tree about 200 meters (650 feet) from the house, guarded by the kangaroo. Richards was taken to hospital to be treated for minor head injuries.

The RSPCA has given Lulu its animal valor award to recognize the kangaroo’s heroic act with a certificate to be presented to Richards at a ceremony next month.

“What she did really was exceptional,” RSPCA spokeswoman Jenny Hodges said on Wednesday.

Lulu was reared by the Richards family, who rescued her from her mother’s pouch and fed her on bottles after her mother was killed by a car over four years ago.

All but one track is going to be instrumental. I'm using the "ORA Battle Track" as a remix for "The Hungry Ghost Realm" and I have something in mind for "The Jealous Gods Realm". I'm half way done with the album so I'm shooting for a launch date around early August if everything goes as planned.

Thanks for the compliments. Do you have any pointers on where I should take what I should add, etc?

Only thing I'd recommend, as a listener and not as a critic, would be a bit more variance to the beat. It's good, but around forty or so seconds into it, I feel like everything I've heard is getting looped around again.

I'm not familiar at all with the Buddhist concept of hell. Are there different types of suffering occurring? if so, you could pull from that, maybe change up what we're hearing, go in several different directions, but stay true to the original melody.

Good stuff. Is your album going to be independent, or you have a label? Either way, keep us posted, I'll drop good green on it.

I'm completely independant and have no one to payback.

My draw for the hell beat is war. As we all know War is Hell. I also draw from the aspect of Shintoism dealing with gods and demons being everywhere. The mood being trapped. Kinda like beinging in a micro-apartment in Tokyo. But the room is full of tacks and molten tungsten. :D

Smuggla was a challenge to myself. I've always had problems making Drum & Bass tracks, but when I started Smuggla everything just clicked. Again, guys, I reiterate they are all unfinished and you guys are the guinnea pigs. So, There is some pressure on y'all to find the bad in every single track I post (which shouldn't be too hard). I want you guys to be blunt. Tell me how it is so I can fix it. I really appreciate the praise, but thats not what I'm looking for.

Okay, here's the deal: the school nurse at my youngest brother's school and I have been "flirting" for a few weeks. Since summer's almost upon us, I figure, what they hey, why not ask her out?

Would dating the (attractive) school nurse make me a bad person, or a bad person? Either way, it'd be nice to get out with a good looking, kind hearted young lady.

Starchaser107
05-11-2004, 01:35 PM

better day today, i didn't get much sleep last night though, consequently i've been mostly a bum all day, except i was working on a painting, and trying to save my energy for the long haul of training i have ahead of me commencing soon , thanks for asking.
i wouldnt go as far as saying i've been going through "rough times", because it's not that bad, and i've been through worse.
it's just that some issues in life...,especially my life, can get complicated.
rest assured though that where i am in my life, i don't want to make decisions that compromise who i am.
normally when i'm stresed like this i drink and smoke heavily, but not this time , i've worked too hard to throw away the results on a negative streak.
i'm not inclined to discuss it any more deeply over the internet though.
at least not yet, not until it's resolved.

oddly enough, if i did explain the situation, most of you would consider this (situation) totally a desirable thing.
maybe it is
maybe i'll write a song heh heh.

two wrongs don't make it right , nor does anything get solved by acts of hatred.
people who have no interest in harming muslims or attacking muslim nations are being attacked and targeted by extremists.
i don't condone the abuse of prisoners of war by americans or on either side for that matter, but i also don't condone the killing of people who have no ill will towards anyone, muslim or american.
war is stupid, but i suppose it's nieve to think that war is not eneviatable...
because people are uneducated nieve and foolish, therefore violence seems like a justifiable solution to thier problems.
violence from either side only fuels the fire.
It's difficult in these times to remain neutral,
I can't say this war does not concern me, because it does,
many innocent people who are neither islamic or american have died for no f.ucking reason because of these @ssholes.

relegion is evil. so is the greed for power.
revenge is evil, there is no justifiable evil, wrong is wrong.
all this fighting must stop, there is no other way.
where can we find peace?

CaptinPickAxe

I cannot belive you, Chen.

Your going to abanndon the ORA (the most juxtapose group on KFMonline) just because some fuks on the main page? Give me a break. Both situations are horrible and we've all agreed on it, but to go off and call us satanic yanks is uncalled for. I'm not satanic and I'm not a yank (what we southern boys call northerners).
Yous shouldn't condem the whole basket because two apples have worms in them.

Rent Test: No complaints.
Save It: Sounds good, first 19 seconds or so a bit reptitive.
Another Night: Sounds good.
Tha Safari: Tha Stuff.

I tried to be all critical and stuff, but I couldn't find nothing really to pick out, accept for an occassional bit of repetitiveness.

The new stuff sounds awesome. Looking forward to hearing the finished products.

I'd be very interested in hearing the continuation of Ni Shi Asura Ma(?). I liked Hell Realm, but this definetly puts a different edge on it.

Awesome, awesome stuff. You definetly have a gift for this.

I'm exceptionally picky when it comes to my music, as it is very important and very expensive. Besides, it has to fit into a certain groove in my life. If I'm willing to pay money for music, it has to be **** good. And buying it is the highest form of compliment I can pay to an artist.

BTW, I call "Save It" dudaduda becuase of the noize Rza makes. Its a funny noise brought to light by none other than Dave Chappelle. I have much work to do on my joints, so I'm outtie till the morn.

Yeah, the guy from downstairs came up and told me to "turn that sh!t down!" apparently he had to wake early. I hate apartments. Back at MeatShake and My house, we used to bump a much bigger system till 3am. Not to mention keggers 4 nights a week...it was like a fukkin' bar/frat house/detox. We had a passed out drunk pizz all over an old couch (the couch was out the next day, we can have our nice crib smellin like pee). Not to mention a passed out girl vomit all over my bed(which also was thrown out). I moved out the next day. I was sick and tired of cleaning up after drunks...they also stole a grip of CDs and a custom blown pipe I bought for my 18th birthday...*******s.

the pee and vomit thing:
I was pizzed to the n-th degree when both happend (mostly my bed). I gave them sympathy though because of how sh!tfaced they were, and we had to carry both of them to where the mess was made. What sucks was that both of them happend on the same night (I think:confused: ) Luckly the couch was in the computer room and we had a nice leather one in the living room.

Dude, I used to work on tracks with my emcee friends till late as ****! I loved it! I used to have production nights too with my bassist and guitarist friends. They are featured on "The Tonight Show" and "1976" They go by the names of Mando and Chris. Great musicians. Miss them dearly.

How cool?
THIS cool! I can't remember much about it though. I think we had two drummers. And we all had some 1950's style tux's and hats on. The more I think on it the more I beleive you played a guitar, or possibly a base.

I guess I kinda know why I dreamt this. Everyone I know talks to me how they wanna go to Japan, how they think they could get a name over there and such. It has really caught on I guess. Maybe I should see this as a sign to pick up my music again? :D

holdupholduphold....why did you quit in the first place?!? I DEMAND YOU TO PUT IN TWO HOURS PRACTICE ON THE CLASSICAL GUITAR!!!!:D

The college I'm going to has a guy who produce three albums for the Tokyo Madonna (I forget her name). So its not improbable that I may end up in Japan...which would be fuggin' sweeeeeeet.

man I'm tellin u C, music was my life. I played piano for seven years but I don't remember **** now. (didn't like that one) but I played guitar like, a few hours every day for like ten years. Thats my instrument . lol, I even went to the church just to sing. I stopped coz I didn't have the time for it anymore. I wanted to spend all that time on CMA instead. So, now I payed my prize n Im really rusty on it.

I've been discussing to revive my old punk group though. Although, I'm more hip hop now.

I wish you would make it. I hate it when all these un creative popsters gets fame and glory when there's true artists out there.

if you end up in the japanese maddonna that might be even sweeter;)
ya , also we all posted pics of ourselves in any case , and what does it matter anyway,
i've had dreams about ppl i know and see everyday and in the dream they didn't look anything like they do in reality. but i know its them.

Chase: What about the collabo? I have a bit of bad news. Since I got accepted to IPR, I'll be leaving Colorado early to spend time with my family before dipping out for two years.

Kris: My only advice to you is this, friend. Start up on music again. You've dedicated too much time to just throw it away like that. Who knows? Maybe if I become successful, I may be looking for a swedish punk/hip-hop band.:D

What a wonderful idea Chase! How about you and I work on a beat, Kris you practice your gutiar as much as possible and we'll drop you somethin' to put your guitar to. We'll put the name ORA Rydaz to use.

Kristoffer
05-26-2004, 01:58 PM
cool, I could sing on it too.
I have a slight problem though. My recording **** aint that high tech. Right now I'm using a karaoke mic and windows sound program to record  I've been trying to get a clean sound all day but it just continues to make these brushy noises.

Finally got the course material today for my CFT certification! So, in about six weeks, I'll take the test, then after I heal, I'll go get my CPR class taken care of, then I'll be a bona fide personal trainer! yay!

Kris: I have a program that removes all that bad stuff. Like pops, clicks, fuzz, and all that jazz.

I'm honestly considering moving my base of operations to Hawaii after I get outta college.

I've been doing research on housing in Hawaii and this is what I found. (http://www.hcdch.state.hi.us/state_rent_rates.html)

I was thinkin' of having my base in Pearl City or Leeward area.

Hawaii is awsome, definatly on my have-to-go list.
yo Cap I found a way to get a pretty decent recording sound. I go through the Acid program, I'm gonna try using the electric too, via a pandora box. I'll see what happens

Just bummin'.

Feel kinda nervous, all this talk of the Draft. But, I've nothing to worry about there. I, though I am something of an athlete, I can't run a 1/4 mile. patella tracking disorder. Plus, can't put on a backpack. Got a couple of herniated disks from a kid jumping on my neck whilst sparring (poor form from using an unfamiliar squatting technique probably contributed, too). Slide a pack on, get a migraine the size of my ***** and everything just about locks up. I was in love, I think. I miss that, too. I think I'm lonely.

On the plus side, I had a passing thought about converting to Buddhism, had the intense feeling of NO slam into my head, so I'm guessing the Big G don't play that. Plus, started on my CFT course, so that's exciting. Have a good, supportive family, for the most part. So that's great.

Oh yeah, CPA aka Sifu Beats is still dropping some exceptional material, so that doesn't suck.

All in all, I have a good life. I wouldn't trade it.

/Just bummin'.

Indeed. I've yet to come across anything that's managed to kill me, so I like to think I'm ahead by the numbers.

First, ouch. 2nd, Why in the Fug Take Creatine? Just eat some good, free-range red meat.

I'll be aight soon enough, and I'm sure ST107 can pull through.

Mad props to the ORA Crew.

Cause it was cheap, effective, and only thing worth while that my work had to offer. Only other things we had were snake oils and tornado blockers;)

Meat Shake

LOTS of whey protein.
Ive also been taking something called V12, but the protein is what makes a big difference.
It makes you **** real hearty instead of runny.

Anyone who speaks chinese needs to please translate the GM Chang interview on emptyflower for meatshake please. Thank you very much.

nothing. Back in the old days, Traveling salesmen would trick you into buying products that obviously didn't work. A lot of the supplements at my work are the same way. They are "REVOLUTIONARY FAT-BURNING, ENERGY BOOSTING, MUSCLE-BUILDING PILLS!!!" When all they contain is powder, tree bark, and a little herbs.

I wanna take the time and talk about the buzz of a night long session of making music. Hearing everything coming together into what you have in your mind. Starting the night with a few bowls and a few beers, and worring about nothing. My friends, this feeling that I speak of is unlike any high that god, substance, sex can provide. Not neccesarily better, but different to the 10th degree. Its like watching your child grow into an adult, watching it go through hard times, enjoying the good. Loving ever minute of it. You are completely engulfed in the current moment in a strange zen-like trance. Hearing every single thing being added. It also forms bonds with the ones you work with. Bonds that resemble those of soldiers or famliy. I have 6 brothers now. 3 emcees and 3 producer/musicans. All in it for the same goal...the track...the present moment...and self expression. After deciding on a point you see fit to stop and say, "Thats enough for tonight" and realizing it is no longer tonight but tomarrow morning. I long for the days of making music with Mando, James, Chris, Matt, Ray, and Ernest because in those moments of creative expressions...I truely found happiness. So Shake, If you read this, I urge you to show it to mando, chris, james, matt, ray, and ernest. Because I want you guys to know how truely happy y'all have made me. You guys are my muses and I will forever be in your debt. I will never forget driving around critiquing our work. Waking your ass up a 6am so you could hear the tonight show...

We are brothers, and regardless of the time we spend apart, we will always be such.

Bless you all for you are my creative life blood.

I got to take my brother out tonight. We had good times.

Played 3 games of billiards. Took about an hour. I'm too gimp to shoot right, he's too inexperienced to capitalize on my weakness. Then, we hung around Wal-Mart for a while. I flirted with da wimminz, looked for KFTC magazine (wasn't out yet), looked for good music. Found a CD, but don't wanna drop green on it yet. Wait til it gets bargain-binned. Little bro bought some Yougioh cards. Seemed excited about them.

Dude is cool.

peace.

I just bought Blockhead's new LP...OMFG! I'm just as impressed by it as the El-P LP(hehe) I picked up...wow...I'm on a roll...I hope I get some more good music.

I also saw The Day After Tomorrow...it wasn't half bad. There are some parts that you go "what the fizzuck?" to (like people freezing instantly). All in all not a waste of $9US
