Mentioned again briefly in the "losing faith in martial arts" thread, and I thought I'd clarify it.
The majority of participants in the Boxer Rebellion were not martial artists. None of them believed that Iron body Qigong would protect them from gunfire.
They were in fact what are known as "spirit boxers" and believed that they were possessed by spirits. They believed that THIS would protect them from the gunfire. This is really a tragic tale of how people (most of them uneducated rural people) were manipulated to meet the goals of others.

It's about time. We need to make a thread to educate non cma so they can critique intelligently. THere's nothing worse than someone critisizing about what they don't know.

Boxer rebels had their own martial art,I cannot recall the name but it was glorious.

It is true however, that if you train hard enough you can build a shield of external chi which will protect you from gunfire.

Actually, If they were all wearing their "cool" glasses they might have won the boxer rebellion. Confused the poor gun toting *******s into fleeing cause they have black things on their eyes...?
I need to go home and take a nap.
and I just wanted to say "cool" glasses again.

I wouldn't say die hard, but yeah, they're funny. I must have missed the episode you guys are talking about.

It's when Ranier Wolfcastle comes to Springfield to film the movie version of Radioactive Man. He's caught in a flood of acid and shouts "Ze goggles! Zey do nuttink!" Also, Milhaus is cast as his sidekick Fallout Boy, and is frustrated by the repeated line readings of his catchphrase, hence "I've said "jimminy jillikers" so many times the words have lost all meaning!"
