In 1959, DeMile began his martial arts career under the direction of the legendary Bruce Lee. As one of his first generation students, Sijo DeMile had the opportunity of assisting Bruce in developing his unique
fighting skills. As part of Bruce’s inner circle, he hung out with Bruce, fought with him, did demos, and was a first hand witness to his awesome speed and power. Very few men can say that they have touched hands and fought directly with Bruce Lee. But the guys in Seattle did it everyday. It was also DeMile’s privilege to be in Bruce’s only book, The Philosophical Art of Self Defense.

He spent two years as an instructor in hand-to-hand combat for the Special Forces Combatives program at Fort Lewis.
