hey guys,

from what i noticed, there are not many wing chun/tzun specialists in UFC.

does that mean it is ineffective in real combat. because i always thought they were real practical in street fights.

what do you guys think?

thanks

It all depends on who and how your fighting i think in terms of wing chuns effectiveness. I was told however that wing chun got is backside kicked when it went into the ring. They dont allow for kicks to the groin or eye jabs either, so wing chun would be limited there.

I saw a fight between gilbert Yvel and Vanderlei silva, both men are rather large, one opponent was kicked in the groin and couldnt continue to fight, therefore i cannot help but wonder, would wing chun be effective if they made it true, no holds barred.

Fighting has little to do with what school the fighters claim to be from.

The rules were not the limiting factor for the early wing chun "stylists" that entered UFC. Eye jabs and groin kicks are not th only weapons a real wing chun fighter would have - thats an excuse randoms use when mouthboxing.

Styles dont fight.

Maybe because Wing Chun players practice sparring against other Wing Chun players? If you're not used to dealing with roundkicks, western boxing, grappling... you're going to struggle against those things.
