View Full Version : Any Recommendations for a Good Shaolin Demo Tape?

I just enjoy watching documentaries and demonstrations about Shaolin and the monks.

I was looking at 'Shaolin Kungfu 2000' at Martial Arts Mart.

Any recommendations? Thanks. It doesn't matter if it's wushu or traditional, though I would prefer the latter.

Note: I'm not interested in how-to's or particular forms; just demos and docs.

Shi Guolin's "Fundamental Fist Forms" tape is great. It's got pretty much all of the famous forms from Shaolin and a bit of history at the beginning.

I was looking at that one too. I may pick it up on my way to kungfu class. :)

Shaolin Art of War - (sold as a Jet Li tape) has some pretty smart QiGong tricks on it but its a bit cheesy. Its worth a look just for the guy pulling the garden roller - if you've seen it you'll know what I mean. Aiiiieeee!

One of the earlier documentaries - sort of like those picture books, plus you get to see a young Jet Li...

I think we're talking about the same video Gene.

Does the one you refer to have monk Hai Teng (spelling??) doing the one-finger handstand?

Some pretty cool stuff on the video.

No, actually the Hai Teng one is this one -

It's the same Jet Li footage pretty much though, just with different other stuff. Also worth checking out is this one -

If memory serves, that has the same Jet stuff too (that Jet stuff got around, but it's pretty cool to see him at age 18...) This last one does a little at shaolin and a lot at other places. The "army" style footage is really good.

This is part of our new 12 video Shaolin instructional series all shot at Shaolin. This particular title has several bonus tracks - lots of different traditional form demos.

Also good for collections of forms demos are the following

Did I make you spend all you money yet? ;)
