Just wondering if anyone has good references for this style?

Here's an interesting site I was just looking at a couple days ago:

http://helium.utias.utoronto.ca/bajimen-cgi/bajimen_page.cgi?action=display&page=liu-liuhe-index.html

Hope it helps.

Cheers, BL. Doesn't seem to be much info around, eh?

No. I had the same problem.

Contrasting with seven star northern preying mantis... different footwork (flowing in-and-out, follow steps; rather than monkey footwork); emphasis of palm instead of mantis hand; soft/continuous rather than hard/crisp energy.

Simililar to seven star nothern preying mantis... angular stepping; emphasis on attacking outer doors; emphasis on attacking weak structures.

Or at least that's the impression I'm under. Not alot of info out there, and very few practitioners. Unfortunately, those I've met personally have their six harmony mixed with other styles, and were predominantly seven star with heavy bajiquan influence. But from what I can tell, it seems like a very interesting style. I would love to see more of it.

What do you want to know?

Well, I guess I'm interested in it in a broad kinda way... once upon a time I really wanted to study mantis kung fu (having no idea of the stylistic diversity that was out there) but wrote that off after seeing a whole lot of steroidal macho crap at a qixing tanglang studio...

Over the years have come across references to 6 harmony that frame it as a "soft" style. Having found a lot in the internal martial arts, it just has me feeling curious again... One directed question might be: does it exist as a style in its own right? What I mean by that is, are there 6 harmony specialists out there, and is it a comprehensive fighting system (I wonder because, as Braden points out, it seems to have been "tacked on" to many mantis curriculums)?

I guess I'm just interested in whatever anyone who has had contact with the art can offer. (I knoe it's broad - I'd hate to try to answer a question like that about taiji or bagua, but then again there's way more info that can be publicly accessed).

dedalus,

If you're interested in a soft internal mantis then you should check out Kwong Sai Jook Lum Gee Tong Long Pai Southern Praying Mantis Kung Fu.

There's great info out there on the web from Gin Foon Mark, Henry Poo Yee and others.

Check it out!
