Standing on the spot jumping.....how high do your feet come off the floor?

I can jump about 2 feet at the moment i think.....:(

I noticed it had decreased when I was playing ball this morning.....

Any good ways of training to increasing it?

I'm 6 foot one, and when I jump, my head almost hits a 9 foot ceiling.

Haven't tried it yet, but I probably will in a few months. Have a look:

Thanks for the link.

After my triathlon, I had planned to get into a phase for jumping.

I have a friend in TKD who can jump pretty high. He's 5'4" and jumps so he can fly over me--I'm also almost 5'4".

Can you dunk? I haven't been able to yet. I'm 6'1" too.

well given his head nearly hits a 9 foot ceiling and hes 6'1, I'd say YES he should be able to, his arms would be about 2 1/2 feet or so (given the height) that would mean he could probably touch an 11 foot marker - which would be more than enough to be able to dunk

im 6'2 with a 2 foot jump (when standing still, with a run it may be about 2 1/2) and I can dunk 2 hands, probably not as nicely as him though :(

i'm tall enough to, and have on occassion(sp), but I don't play enough basketball to be able to with any reliability.

SoulJah - your math is off - because the arm doesn't begin at the top of the head, it begins at your shoulder.

I'm sure I can jump two feet up (measured from the heels), but I definitely can't dunk - at least last time I checked. I plan on changing that. Back when I was trying to dunk, I was only a couple inches from being able to do it. My legs are stronger now, but I've been practicing jumping and basketball alot less...

Now if you mean two foot jump measured from the bottom of the toes - yeah I prolly can't. I'm going to have to test my vertical and get back to you guys.

Try Lion dancing.

I personally guarantee it will improve your vertical jump. :D

cheers

vertical jump onto a flat wall ... like the ones outside houses bordering people's yards. i live in an area that has had some pretty bad floods so there's lots of them.

Somebody was telling me that Olympic lifters who are 5'5" can jump up and grab the rim. Because of the explosive strength they build. Also that Oly lifters can beat 100-meter sprinters for the first 10 meters.

I saw in a National Geographic (I think) a picture of a big olympic lifter who had like a 4ft vertial jump or something (is that a lot? I don't even know). The picture was of him in the air. And it's funny, too, cuz they're usually such big guys, and I don't mean ripped. So, I wonder if they could shed some of that adipose (fat) tissue if they could jump even higher?

GDA, I used to do that as part of training, we would put a 2x4 accross a bar stool and jump to land in a horse on the board.

not sure of the total height, 30 or 36 inches...probably couldn't get it today though

I can bunny hop my bike over an 18'' concrete block:D does that count?
