I just started to train this style this past week and I have to say I am having a lot of fun! I was expecting a flowery martial art but it appears to be pretty no nonsense. There were some things we did that to me seem to require some really good speed and reflexes, however I would have to say about 80% of what I was shown was really useful.

enjoy it, train hard and be prepared for the inevitable political crap that you will be exposed to. dont let that stuff interfere with your development.

Cutter, I have been doing wing chun for about 5 years now so I am used to the political garbage, no one does it better then WC!

LionDancer, what did you think? who did you train with? What did you like and dislike most about the art?

Hello red5angel!Ask Jack about the popcorn story or the story about when he asked if his fries were hot at Macdonalds.:)

Welcome Jook Lum!

Hello Red5...

Cutter is right, dont let the politics sway or distract you. As for my thoughts, I only have experience with two styles, Hung Gar and JLTL. Personal preference is JLTL as the one to be more effective for me.

I like HG as it has its own characteristics and provides a strong foundation especially for liondancing, but for internal strength development and maximizing striking effectiveness, I prefer JLTL. Both are effective and has its uses. I studied in NY under the late Master Lam.

Hi,

I'm a Chow Gar student from Hungary and I wish to ask something. One of my students goes to New York this summer maybe for a longer time, and he wants to train there too if it is possible. If you now Chow Gar or any other SPM schools in NY please inform me.

Thank you.

HalfMoon,

you can look for Milton Chin's school or Norman Chin's school. Both in NYC Chinatown area. Both studied Jook Lum Tong Long (SPM) under the late Master Chen Ho Dun who studied along with Master Gin Mark Foon under the late Great Master Lam Sang. Hopes this helps.

Hello Liondancer! Did Norman and Milton train under Master Chin Ho Dun at the sametime(and for the same amount of time)? Thanks

LionDancer

Hello Jook Lum, both trained under the late Master Chin Ho Dun at the same time and I believe for approx the same amount of time. Both also know Master Gin Mark Foon personally as he was Master Chin's si-hing. How have you been? We should continue with our written comparisions when you have some time.

Milton is up at the Freemason's on Canal Street, Norman is at the Chinatown YMCA on Hester Street.

Watch a full class.

Ask how much time each of them spends touching hands with thier students.

Ask Norman how much he charges for "First Gate" these days.
