Kung Fu tournaments

In Finland we have really strange form of kung fu used in the turnaments(nationals).Its like sanshou,but you are not allowed to hit the head and you are not allowed grab your opponent.Its full contact offcourse.You wear head,chest,groin and chin protection.Is this kind of tournaments held anywere else? :confused:

If you cannot hit someone in the head, and you can't grab, then how is this sport like sanshou? It sounds more like Tae Kwon Do.

Wow, well, it sounds like the tournament is based on rules designed to minimize injury.

You can sill learn a lot from these kinds of contests, but they also hurt you a bit by allowing you to get away with tactics that will not work when sparring with less rules.

Yeah and to make it even stranger we suddenly were allowed to grab the opponent and kick to the legs in the nationals. And the people who won are going to a real Sanda comp. ,where we are allowed to hit the head....
