I was just curious as to wheather or not you guys prefer leading with your power side, or to leav it in the back?

I lead with it.

I keep it back.

90% of the time I lead, but it depends upon the situation.

Both, start off power side foward. I like the quick front leg kicks and the third punch power if leading with a jab. Also a little predispositioned to power side back... I guess what I'm saying is that I'll switch up a lot.

good good...
for the most part I tend to square off with whomever Im fighting, unless I feel like being tricky and using a technique I need to be same sided with them.

in sparring i switch back and forth, to gain comfort with both sides and for practicing different techniques.
in the real thing, i lead with my weak side.

Right side (power side) forward. That is the way I have always trained. I do occasionally switch, but not often.

Depends on the range and footwork, but power side forward.

depends on what I feel like I might decide to work.

so, for me it's technique dependant.

or maybe, more appropriately, what I'm going to lead with:

backfist - rt fwd

jab - left fwd

rear leg front kick - left fwd

lead leg round house - rt fwd

crescent kicks; inside or outside - could be either, actually

"here's my face, hit it" - both;)

either side is my power side so it's always forward and back :D

upper power behind, lower power forward

but fighting is dynamic, one fights anyway he has too since the stance will change eventually during the fight

Generally I have it back. However, I have been known, on occasion, to adopt the deadly and mysterious "crane stance".

No can defense.

I tend to have more power on my right side but I let the fight dictate which side I keep forward. I don't really have a preference.

Being principally a WCer, I train both sides equally, so I don't have a power side, which leads me into walking slowly face frontwards into any attack to absorb their power up my nose from whence I flap at them with both puny little fists like a girl-child...

 ...

I think... :o

I lead with my left generally, cos it's the weakest (in technique and power and well, everything...) and I want to train it up.

If I'm serious I switch, usually starting with the left to give them something to think about or suck them in, when I fade or chase with a solid right or two.

Presenting my arse as I run away works well too.

How screwed up is this:

When striking, weak side lead. When grappling, strong side lead.

While it seems to develop some confusion in me w/regards to stance maintanence, it also seems to confuse my opponents... :D

Merryprankster I had a training partner that was the same way and southpaw as well. He could shoot in real well, but only from one side. Whenever he would switch sides you would know what is coming next.

Life isnt a sparring match or even San Shou. Usually the first good hit in wins the fight. I keep strong side attack/defense in the lead.

Ah, but I have different takedowns from both sides! :) So I have right and left takedowns, they are just not quite the same.

Merryprankster-

But that would defeat the almighty sprawl and I would then have to gauge out your eyes. Unless you exclusively strike with one side forward and grapple with the other I can see how your approach would confuse many opponents.

Powerside forward.

Maybe "switching leads" can be a paradigm for executing techniques, and your stance can be reactive to the pressure your opponent exerts.

hehe... wow
i never expected this or that other thread on what style are you to go so long....
sweeps - have both sided take downs, depends on how big the person im fighting is.
Punches - like to lead with my weak because im in the bad habit of trapping blocks all the time. or good habit.....
:)
kicks- Dont really like to throw kicks too high, so I leave either side forward, just kicks to legs and stomach area most the time, would try to roundhouse someone in the head in a real fight... yet....
:D
