Hi all,

How do you view your Wing Chun - as a hobby which you are dedicated to, or your whole life revolves around WC!!

Thoughts??

Go to class three times a week, train in my spare time, go to work and find myself doing SNT in the elevator (when I'm the only one in it), spend too long reading posts on this forum, talk about Wing Chun NON-STOP, have a girlfriend who dispairs.

So, yes... it's a hobby :D

Preferring balance to obsession I like to think it is the former. When being honest with myself, it's more the latter in actuality. Gotta fix that, LOL.

At this point somewhere in the middle of the two I think.
It is a way of life that I am dedicated to. I am still able to keep up with little league coaching, business, family, etc., but see myself drifting to thoughts and practice of WC more and more as the days pass.

Obsessing with WC is bad because it will make you spout off like a complete loser about how much you think you know about it for about 6 months; after that you'll begin to realize you are a know-nothing moron and go over to the main Kung Fu board and proceed to refer to the people on the Wing Chun board as retards.

if you post 5 times a month it is a hobby, if you post 5 times a day that's an obsession. :D

interest. It don't pay the bills, cook the dinner, clean the house, or share the laughs.

Obsession is just bad, the result of escapism or over indulgeance. Same as trekkie conventioners, compulsive gamblers, or N'sync fans...

You know you're obsessed when you love your sash so much you wear it as a scarf.

Yeah, sometimes I do that, put goggles on and sit on top of my doghouse. I feel just like a Wing Chun Flying Ace.

But I'm afraid my answer is more boring...

hobby and obsession are only two choices, and not wide enough at that.

For me I am accepting it as part of a way of thinking and moving that I found in me as I was growing up, and as an adult. In a way, it was always part of my character, like the food I like, like the way I talk, like my other MA practise as part of my philosophy, like the way I wake up, like the...

Oh sh*t! Guess it's an obsession...!

 :o :( :D

does your gym train you hard enough?

I don't see how it can possible be an obsession, we do mad cardio and we are so burnt out I can't wait to get out of class at the end of 1.5 hours

Its very strenous, I don't even think about martial arts after the class... crazy.
