SevenStar

In front of you are two gates, one of them leads to paradise and the other to instant death.

There are two guards: one always lies and one always tells the truth. You may ask only one question to one guard to find out which is the right gate. You don't know which of them lies or tells the truth.

What'll be your question?

chen zhen
06-22-2003, 11:48 AM
"Let us BATTLE!"
then u defeat them both and go through the right gate.
Easy one. Next! :D ;)
No seriously, I don't know. I'll hang around here and find out if someone can actually answer it. I love riddles.;)

Did Notorious B I G have 2Pac killed? And was he himself killed in retaliation (or perhaps merely percieved retaliation)?

Anyway, do the guards even know which gate they're guarding?

Royal Dragon
06-22-2003, 11:56 AM
SevenStar ,
I'd pick one, and ask him what the other would answer. if he's the one telling the truth, he will respond with a lie, because the other one could only lie, and the truthful answere would be to tell you what the liear would say. If he's the liear, he's STILL going to respond with a lie, because he'd have to lie about the other's answer. Either way, you know the answer is a lie, so you can pick the opposing door with confidence.

chen zhen
06-22-2003, 01:23 PM
But both the the one talking the truth and the lying one will say: The other is lying. How would you know?

Do you have to brush your teeth during a fast?

Why do they call it a fast when it goes so **** slow?

Why are there locks on the door of the convienent store that's open 24 hours?

Why are the needles used in lethal injection sterilized?

If a chinese person leaves China, does he become disoriented?

And why the f*** do they have BRAIL on the touch pad at a drive thru ATM???

1) Yes, cos of bad breath.

2) To be locked when people want to have orgies with pigs and dwarves.

3) Cos the hospital can charge some extra cents for using a new needle.

4) Nah.

5) I wish i knew what brail and atm are.

one ALWAYS tells the truth. the other ALWAYS lies. consequently, if you ask the one telling the truth, he will tell you that the liar will say to pick the left door, for example. Well, the liar always lies. That means you should pick the door on the right.

It you ask the liar, and he says that the other one would say to pick the left door (which he has to tell you that lie, because he always lies) then you know that the real door is the one on the right.

either way, you win.

I have it on good confidence that they were told - they are guardians and thusly are informed of exactly what they are guarding.

heres one count the math as you go through the events in the story.

Three traveling business men find a hotel to stay at advertised at $30 per night.

They decide to split the cost of the room evenly.

How much did each pay?

Very good $30. After they go to there room, the cashier realizes that he a made mistake, the rooms are on special that night for $25/night. So how much does he owe in refund?

$5, very good we all graduated 1st grade, but the cashier has a problem, he doesn't have a 5 dollar bill, so he uses five $1's. He instructs the bellboy to take the refund to the gentlemen in their room.

The bellboy is not that bright, so as he's going to the room he thinks, how do you divide five into three? Then he gets an idea, he takes two dollars and puts in his pocket for a tip. Then he refunds each person one dollar.

So now let's recap. Each business man was refunded one dollar, how much did they pay for the room now?

$9

what's 9 plus 9?

18

plus 9 again equals?

27

plus the two dollars in the bellboy's pocket?

29

Where did the other dollar go?

One should never be defined by either if you want a true definition of someone. Saying that focusing on hate leads to the dark side.

Chang Style Novice

Jackie Chan was not in Smokey and the Bandit. The Burt Reynolds car-crash movie he was in was Cannonball Run, or possibly Cannonball Run II.

"'nuzzer one: how come we can't come up with really big Q's, only trivia? "

That's easy! We're idiots.
