Anybody know if they perform it different? I've heard their fighting style is based on it's techniques.

Perform it different from what? Goju Sanchin?
The crux of Uechi Ryu is in Sanchin (as the founder said: "all is in Sanchin"). From what little experience I have of Uechi Ryu, it seems this kata teaches breath control, "iron body" and the basic striking and footwork of Uechi Ryu...

It is done without the forced exhalation and it makes use of more open hand strikes. It is not as constipated looking as Goju Sanchin. There is an old Shaolin SamChien form (Shorinji Sanchin) that is very similar too it.

It is also similar in execution to some Fukien White Crane forms (Sam Chien). Although there's no emphasis on Fajing in the Uechi Sanchin.

Also, there is no exhalation during the strikes (as in most forms).
