Hi Gene

I know there are more Chinese speakers on the boards, but you're the only one I can think of that's here regularly. Can you translate the inscription on this for me?

Cheers

Here is a better shot of the same tablet for you to view.

I could be mistaken about these being the same tablet comparing them, I do know that they are the same type of tablet a monument for a teacher of some sort. These could be opposing shots, one of the front and the other the back but they sure do look alot alike. And I'm not sure but I think that there has been more than one monument purchased for Master Sin. I'll research more thoroughly and see what we can find out, regardless any information you may be able to provide about the inscriptions would be very helpful.

Nevertheless I will provide a copy of the one for Master Sin just because I want to know what the character say anyway.

As you enter Shaolin Temple, Sin's stele is on the right side towards the back. I'm not sure who set the first stele, but you can see from the pic that it's on the left.

And I'm not a Chinese speaker. But that doesn't mean I can translate. There are such things as Chinese dictionaries, you know. Of course, I have native speakers right next to me in this office too

Serpent's is "chan quan gui yi" = Zen Fist (or martial arts) return to one.

Evad's is "shao lin chao sen" = Shaolin holy place or Shaolin pilgrimage place. Nice pic of Venerable Shi Suyi.

Thanks Gene for taking the time to check that out for us.

So it's not dedicated to him, as such, but just a memorial donated in his name?

Is he dressed as a Nascar driver?

Seriously, why do people sit there and stick 50,000 patches on there uniform? Ugh...I can't stand it. Makes me cringe. my uniform is plain black, with red button things. No patches, I hate patches.

Tae Kwon Do does it too. And self appointed Super Ultra Mega Grandmaster Sokes.

Yeah, even I can tell that they're two different tablets. I even recognised "shaolin" on the second one! Go me!

So, neither of them are really anything to do with Shaolin-Do per se?

Any takers?

The one that is attributed to Sin The does have a a dedication inscribed at the bottom in English that dedicates the stone to him. But thanks to Gene I would interpret it as being a commemorative tablet denoting a pilgrimage or whatever.

So the people that suggest it is a tablet at Shaolin in honour of Sin The' and his "Shaolin-ness" are lying?

I think we established what exactly it takes to get a tablet put up at shaolin temple when TKD had one put up...

Not talking about this thread, about in general.
This is an old argument. I dont think it was put up to prove that sin is "shaolin". It was bought. As were most the tablets there, to most kung fu masters.
Im very tired and I have to be awake at 7.
Good night.

If someone claims that the tablet was put there to honor Master Sin, why are they lying? On what assumption are they lying? That the temple got word that Sin was coming and said hey let's put up a monument to him.

That some student bought the tablet and had it set in honor of Master Sin, yes the statement is true it's there to honor master Sin.

If they claim that this is proof positive of his Shaolin-ness, then they're uninformed and ignorant but not necessarily liars.

At almost every buddhist site (and most Chinese sites no matter what religion) people set steles when they make a donation to the temple or religious site. I've seen them everywhere from Wudang to Bodh Gaya (where Buddha was enlightened.)

Nowadays, it's very difficult to set a stone at Shaolin, but Sin set his stone in the early years, when Shaolin really needed donations to begin rebuilding itself. I tried to set a stone myself over half a decade ago, but it got tooo difficult and expensive.

The patches. The hair makes him look like a country singer and the face reminds me of Jackie Chan.

This is the patch (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/80-78.html) you guys need.

As for Kajukenbo, it has Chinese roots. You'll also find it in Japanese patches (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/patchjapan.html). That's called cross-filing and I'd do the same for  Shaolin-Do (if we had a S-D patch, that is...;) )

Don't all Japanese and Korean systems have Chinese roots?

PHILBERT

MK, thats debateable. You do know what Kajukenbo is based off right? I was about to write it up, but chances are you know.

Oh well, if not, Ka is Karate. Ju is JuJutsu. Ken is Kenpo. Bo is Chinese Boxing.

I've read a few articles about it. Still looks like Kempo to me.
