Since short staff and knife is my fav weapons it's easy to like. But I'm not sure of the quality of the schools around here

I was at a FMA school last week, I've never seen as sh!tty MA as that.:(

But the JKD I'm going to begin at has kali elemets, and offers private classes in kali. When I visited their gym, I got to have a little knife-sparring match, which was fun. good stuff.

it's not some slow-ass karate, mind you..

When you're facing a knife some day, you'd better move alot, or you're sliced meat. knowwaddamsayin?

there are also knowledgible guys over at www.defend.net along with a **** load of fma elitists that hate white people and anything to do with white people doing fma.

Its all good tho. There are also forums at the sayoc site and the dogbrothers site with loads of info on FMA, weapons, sensitivity, footwork, etc, etc, etc.

Another place to checkout is http://go.to/stickgrappler

And maybe check out material by larry hartsell (not FMA, but related..)

Also you can search BlackJack for FMA type stuff, specifically silat (there are several silat players on these boards.) There is a bunch of info somewhere on these forums concerning Maphilindo (Guro Dan's blend of silat.)

etc..

Keep posting random good links to MA (Other Related Arts-related, u know), it may help the place to evolve more.

It's good to link up good websites so u can bookmark them etc. I have a ton of old bookmarked MA links. It's a good anti-boredom weapon

Thats why I have a website, so when Im on a foreign terminal (yenhoi lingo) - I still have a list of my bookmarks. Not all of them, sadly.

My contribution will be the revival of this. I have just started doing Inosanto Kali at my JKD school, so I can post my questions & views here, running with my own development.

chen zhen: very neat, who is the instructor? Pay close attention to terminology in inosanto blend lineage.

kristoffer: I use MS front page, but then do most of the java and dhtml 'by hand.' Although not very well.

I work with Malay silat-Silat Seni Gayong- though it is a much newer study for me than something like Arnis.

Most of the open silat schools you will find in the states are Dutch Indo like Serak or Tongkat or Jim Ingrams system. Though of course there are systems from all the major areas, malay, java, sumatra, bali, timor, even the philipino musilms use the term silat for their system.

There are hundreds on hundreds on hundreds of silat systems in that region of the world. Many STRICT street combative, some a form of dance, others a ritual way of serving a sacred food.

yenhoi

I think most combatitive silat is mainly concerned with grabbing the offenders head or neck and then breaking their spine or something.

Maybe I can find some videos of a head-turning throw, to takedown, maybe submission. Dunno, havent looked ever, really. I bet Black Jack has some links he is holding out on us.

At any rate, my teacher is supposeto do some video stuff for his webpage at some point.
