I'm going to learn damo's cane soon, but the canes my school ordered dont seem right to me. they feel too light, and they've got ornate carvings on them. I wouldn't trust it to support my weight as a cane, let alone use it as a weapon...(and I'm not a big guy).

Anyone who is familiar with this weapon; what are common specifications of one? how tall, approximately...what should it feel like, its weight...is it usually straight handled or curved...(I've seen demonstrations with both)?

A lot of things are called Tamo Canes - see my article in our 2002 Shaolin Special (http://ezine.kungfumagazine.com/magazine/article.php?article=144). Even the Tamo hidden dagger (http://store.yahoo.com/martialartsmart/45-74kk.html) is sometimes called a cane. Can you describe the cane your school is using more accurately?
