I just thought I'd start a thread with links to some cool fighting ending submission videos. I guess I'll just add on for a little while.

nice!

Although I have to ask truewrestler, why are you on a kungfu forum?

I'm not sure red... just a cool forum I guess

Just so you know, I posted these first two videos on the forum at MMA.tv too. I just thought they were really cool and didn't think you guys should miss out just because the fighters weren't using Chi Na :D

Just had to ask, seems like you are a little tough on the KF guys form time to time. ;)

Ryan Gracie isn't know for his sportsmanship... but you can see that his jiu-jitsu is very good

is that legal?!

I don't get it, it didn't look like the guy tapped out in that second one.

"I don't get it, it didn't look like the guy tapped out in that second one."

He didn't but some fighters are big on not tapping out and taking the damage. MMA organizations usually stop fights so that there is no permanent damage.

Here are pictures from a fight in the UFC that wasn't stopped

Elbow dislocated in round 2:

In round 3, a Kimura was applied...notice that the arm is completely turned around at the elbow (the move went counter-clockwise)... the elbow dislocated immediately:

I think the bottom fighter showed a little mercy... the top guy was screaming but wouldn't tap.

Elbow still dislocated (link corrected):

ok, so in some of these matches the ref calls the fight regardless of whether the guy was tapped? Seems like it might cause some controversy...

Seems like it might cause some controversy... Oh there is sometimes... but usually only when a fight ends without the guy injured by a submission but the ref thought it was inevitable without a tap.

Controversy:

- The fight was stopped with the arm in the same position as when the video clip ends. They were in that position for a while without the bottom guy escaping and the ref called the fight.

No controversy:

- dislocated elbow

He didn't

actually, watch it again, he taps the guys leg... but anyway... I haven't seen anything called without a tap, unless it was painfully obvious...:)

NP, I remember that you mentioned you would like to train with Amal Easton. Let me know if that is still the case, and I can give you some additional info, or go to www.bjjboulder.com

Also, for those out in Maine, a very good instructor just opened his own place out there http://www.ammaonline.com/ His name is Jay Jack (http://www.ammaonline.com/serv02.htm) For all the KF peeps, he even trained Chin Na with Yang Jwing Ming for 5 yrs. Jay is very skilled in both Judo and BJJ, and is well rounded in Thai and W boxing.

R5, true wrestler is here because he wants to learn the deadly secret dragon heart death punch, but no self respecting Kung Fu Online "practitioner" skilled in the deadly arts of mouth boxing and keyboard pressure point chi gung would ever teach him.

That's right! If truewrestler is after the super secret dragon heart death punch then he is doomed to fail!!!

Kevin Jackson, Olympic Gold medalist in wrestling, in his first MMA fight against a seasoned MMA fighter. Who says wrestlers don't know submissions.... I just wish they told me in highschool this was a choke then I would have known a submission :p

just because the fighters weren't using Chi Na

chin na, as I'm sure you know, just means 'sieze' and 'control'.

mma guys are surely adept at 'chin an'

wtf does 'mma' mean anyway? IS there a 'pure' martial art that isn't a concatenation of other martial arts?

he-he, my coach did tell us it was a choke. Of course, he recommended fish hooks if you could hide 'em from the ref.

haha

"wtf does 'mma' mean anyway? IS there a 'pure' martial art that isn't a concatenation of other martial arts?"

MMA is a sport that not developed with a specific martial art in mind. Fighters can take their techniques or train in any number of art they want....Period. It is not a concantenation of other martial arts.... it IS A REALITY that fighters must find their answer to.

oh, I was mostly being facetious.

it's my own personal paradox:

having learned from two different teachers with questionable backgrounds (lineage wise) I have a desire to learn something with definite 'traditional' background.

however, with a HS wrestling background, and due to the type of training I got from both kunf fu teachers I did have, I have my own personal take on this whole 'mma' thing.

mostly that it is nothing really 'new' just a return to good, hard training.

I said it in a thread back in Dec/Jan and I'll say it again: the MMA thing is a good kick in the pants to 'kung fu' (and other types of TMA) schools who have stopped training for combat.

but that's just me running my mouth....

Be water my friend

good advice, but you're preaching to the choir.

note about the ending submission: he is going for an armbar on the guy's right arm... the arm is pulled out... he switches to a triangle position briefly then armbar for the finish on the left arm, all in one motion
