This stuff just got to our market. This protein version is yummy and for about $2.50 gets you 34 grams of protein and probably several servings of fruit as well.

the one with ginkgo and ginseng in it is tasty as well.

that's what stopped me in the aisle. In my efforts to take in at least 200 grams of protein a day, one of those is in my diet now just to switch up the flavor.

ick, you like the protein version? Banana flavored chalk shake is what it is. Dreadful.

it's not that bad. most anything with soy or whey protein in it has a chalky taste. I've not been able to find anything out there that either didn't cost $4 or was chocalate based.

The sub shop down the street from my work has that, so I'll get one of the naked fruit juices there instead of soda or the crappy fruit juice. It's good stuff. I never got the protein pack because it has soy and I steer away from that stuff.

Why steer away from soy?

Lots of studies have shown that it not only lowers testosterone but also mimics estrogen to receptors. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

holy crap!

but what about the studies that say soy(sounds like a form) has better proteins and more aminos than meat?

I guess both could be true but I hadn't heard the other.

so, I guess either meat or whey???

Never read anything like that. At most what I've read is that soy protein is a good substitute for meat or milk (soy milk). I grabbed these off an old post about Soy on here:

http://www.t-mag.com/html/body_143soy.html

http://abcnews.go.com/onair/2020/2020_000609_soy_feature.html

http://www.tetrahedron.org/articles/health_risks/soy_alert.html

Like I said, I'd rather be safe.

how many grams of protein can the system take in at one time? lowering the testosterone is scary...

somewhere way back I had picked up that you couldn't process more than 20 grams at a time...apparently that is incorrect. I'm having a hell of a time getting 200 so I need to have something that I can keep with me and is fairly cheap. Cans of tuna are cheap but there's the whole can opener thing.

It's just interesting how much seemingly contradictory information there is.

kinda like kung fu :p ;)

like you, I`ve heard the # of grams go up and down. trying to get 200 grams a day, you must be pushing the weights. this is also penciled into my day as well. I feel it really helps with my KF training.

have you tried the tuna in the pouch? the wife got me on it, tired of my b*tching about the cans I guess. I use the 3oz (85g) =21 grams of Pro. as for cheap...shop around...she does the walmart gig. without me of course! :)

contradictory information in KF? Naaaaaa! Been there.

see ya

tuna in the pouch is 'spensive.

I'm jes a pur sta'vin martial artist.

I'm lifting and doing my cardio 3 days a week. Usually on my teaching days as I don't work exceptionally hard doing that whereas on Tu/Th the jujitsu class is pretty demanding.

There really isn't a set number of grams the body can process at once. It's not like you eat a chicken breast and *WHAM!* all the protein is instantly absorbed. Protein is very hard for your body to metabolize, so any protein you consume will most likely be absorbed by your body at a steady rate over an hour or two.

somehow I had associated the 20 gram at a time thing as a function of the liver. now, for the life of me, I can't figure out where I read that. The only bodybuilding book I've ever read is Bill Pearl's 'Getting Strong' back in the early 90's but I don't think it was that. oh, well. time to eat another can of tuna.:(
