Does it have to be Chinatown? What part of NJ are you in? There are some good schools in NJ.

Sifu Redmond,

How come you didn't mention Sifi Parlarti? I thought he was on 440 Broadway in NYC but last looking on www.cheungswingchun.com (http://www.cheungswingchun.com) he seems to have moved to Brooklyn.

Ah it's great to be back here. Haven't posting in almost 2 years.

Sup mun hung. Tell Marcus and Simeon, Ron from old school says hello.

You are right. I did forget my brother Victor.
He's no longer in Chinatown. The 911 tradgedy contributed IMO. Victor Parlati is now teaching in Brooklyn. I'm not sure where.

He can be contacted at;

Sam,
What is Chinatown style?

Hi Phil, Chinatown style is traditional based where knowledge is derived from form application, two man, and internal training. Less on eclectic. Though Cama sifu does work with pads, shields, and bag work. Contact fighting with gear on. But that is not the main focus.

Chinatown style???

My interpretation of "Chinatown Style" is rolling up with guns drawn. :D

What's up, Ron? I'll tell both Marcus and Sim you said "hello".

Phil - Victor Parlati moved out of Chinatown way before 911.

In Oct. 2001 The month after 911.
Sifu William Cheung, Keith Mazza, and myself traveled from Keith's house in NJ for the Oct. 2001 seminar at Victor Parlati's school on Broadway. I remember it well because of 2 things. Sifu Mazza's wife didn't want us to go to NY because of the Anthrax scare and the fact that we had to walk from Canal street carrying all of the supplies for the seminar because the streets were blocked off by Police and the Military and our cab wasn't allowed to drive down B'way. So Sifu Parlati was there after 911 and he didn't move until later.

Sam,
as you know I trained with Henry Leung before and during you Sifu's training with Henry.
I trained in Henry's Yau Lei, (Friendship), Restaurant for 2 years in the basement and at his apartments in Brooklyn and Queens. Most schools train in "form application, two man, and internal training". That doesn't make it Chinatown style. I also trained in many schools in NYC Chinatown and I've never heard that catch phrase.

I agree with Sifu Redmond. I was considering join Sifu Parlati's school after 9/11 while he was still on Broadway.

Chinatown style? That's a new one... I've been in MA circles for almost 10 years here in NYC and never heard that one before.

I want to finish my TWC training so I may try for some private instruction from Sifu in Brooklyn.

You guys are way to serious. I just meant traditional as opposed to eclectic teaching.

My school of Traditonal Wing Chun is located 20 minutes away from NYC's Chinatown in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn.

Mun Hung:

You're totally wrong about when I moved out of Chinatown. My school at that time was located at 392 Broadway - just one block south of Canal Street (the heart of Chinatown). I moved the school to the Park Slope section of Brooklyn in December, 2001. The attack on the World Trade Center did indeed contribute to my decision as the closing of Broadway south of Canal Street and the unbelievably heavy traffic on the Brooklyn Bridge (since the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel was closed) made access very difficult.
