are isometrics, such as a proper horse stance or holding a low pushup or anything like that, good for burning fat?

The way to burn fat is to use your anti-gravity muscles for 20-30 minutes at a time, at least three times/week. This causes the red fibers (slow twitch) to make more of the enzymes that burn fat, so you burn it more easily all week long.

Walking, running, bicycling, and yes, horse stance will all do that.

goodie, because an ankle injury is keeping me from doing too much of lots of things that would burn the badness off my backside. holding a stance doesn't hurt, just impact.
