OK, first there is a difference to saying compulsory and contemporary when speaking of wushu. Many teachers have there own idividual contemporary (modern) forms. Then there is the compulsories, these are made up by the governing bodies, and are conteporary.

There is a lot of info now on the web for wushu, check out some of the links off of www.uswushuteam.com and www.wushucentral.com

The new compulsories were released in 2000/2001. These were redesigned forms for Chang Quan, spear, broadsword, staff, and straightsword.
As for how many contemporary longfist forms there are all together, it's impossible to say, because most seen in competition are individual forms(self coreographed). There's also beginer & intermediate forms which are more traditional in how they were put together. There's also the old compulsory(released in '89?) which is a version of Yuan Wen Qing's old individual form based mostly off of Cha Quan. Then there's the old old China compulsory which was a long 8 section beast of a form used as a qualifier for competition(from what I heard). I think the intermediate form most schools use is a very simplified/shortened version of this.
