Sorry, just got back from vacation! :)

Sorry but the answer is no... :D

The name was taken after a Stephen Chow movie "Saek San" ("God of Cookery") one of my all-time favorites.

Henry Matamoros.

I used to do shaolin, but I've been doing BJJ now for about a month.:)

SaekSan

I see, Matamoros is your BJJ teacher?

Who did you study Shaolin with?

I did BJJ for a while, good stuff.

I studied shaolin here (http://chinesekungfucenter.com/)

The school was being run by a couple of master yins senior students. Not one head instructor really.

Yeah, matamoros is the BJJ teacher. Cool guy, and really knows his stuff.

I visited that school a little after Master Yin's death.

Sounds like your happy with your current training.

:)

I'm in Madison, it's always good to hear other Wisconsinites around here!

Yeah, im in a couple. I look retarded in most of them, but this ones ok.

Thats me on the far right (http://www.chinesekungfucenter.com/saberclass.html)

There are ones that are closer up, but I look like a complete fool.:(

Edit: Saeksan- Cool. my cousin goes to college up there. Nice town.

What did you think of the school?

SaekSan

Yeah, it's a great town, but for partying... Milwaukee is where its at!

:D

Overall it was a positive experience, but not what I was looking for. I really went there to see what kind of Northern Shao Lin they were doing and their method. Had some interesting conversations to say the least.

Care to ellaborate(sp)? What was different from the northern shaolin you do? You make it sound like there was something wrong with what they were doing.

Not at all, they didn't do anything "wrong". Master Yin's stuff was good.

My Master was from Taiwan as well and I was hoping our NSL would be similar, but it wasn't (forms and what not). Not that one is better than the other, just different.

At that time they didn't do any SanShou (not sure now) and they had quite an emphasis on form. My teacher was very fond of SanShou (Kuoshu Lei Tai).

To give an example of a conversation I had with an instructor there, once they found out I studied NSL they asked me to demonstrate my Shr Ehr Lu Tan Tui (12 line Tan Tui) after showing them the set (very similar to theirs) the instructor stated to the other students "those are some low stances, this must be a southern style tan tui". My reply was "southern tan tui, huh?! Interesting".

Good to see other Wisconsin kung fu people on here. You guys are welcome to stop by where I run my classes (I teach Chu Sau Lei family wing chun) here in Milwaukee any time.

Westminster Presbyterian
2308 E Belleview Pl (Corner of Farwell and Belleview)

Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We're generally in the middle or upstairs levels depending on how UW-Milwaukee decided to overbook their classes there (they rent space as well).
