View Full Version : Star Wars Kid sues classmates

I copied this from an article in Wired:

Many of you will be familiar with the "Star Wars Kid" video. For those who aren't, it was a home video of a Canadian teenager apparently pretending he was a Jedi, waving a stick and doing his own sound effects. It was not a particularly pretty piece of footage, and obviously wasn't intended for public consumption.

The video, after being uploaded to the net by the teenager's classmates, made rapid progress around the world. An edited version, featuring light-saber effects and a musical backing, shortly followed.

Ghyslain was so teased about the video, he dropped out of school and finished the semester at a children's psychiatric ward, according to a lawsuit filed in the Raza's hometown of Trois-Rivières, Quebec.

According to the suit, "Ghyslain had to endure, and still endures today, harassment and derision from his high-school mates and the public at large." He "will be under psychiatric care for an indefinite amount of time."

For more information, see the Wired News (http://www.wired.com/news/culture/0,1284,59757,00.html) article.

---apparently i'm naive, but i felt pretty sure he was involved in the release of that video.

I laughed at Cindi Lauper's ridiculous dancing in her videos. (the worst I've ever seen barring a six year olds tantrums) sheeesh!
Can't wait for the law suit.
P.S. I'm now rethinking my anti ritalin position.

first of all, going to a psychiatric ward for some teasing is lame, of course he does live ina socialist country...

second of all, I still don't get why that video was such a big deal. Some kid being a kid was all I saw. Fukk if I went crazy everytime someone laughed at me as a kid then maybe I should go psycho. Instead I learned kungfu so I could reap my revenge.

Red 5, there's a difference between being teased by kids at your school and being recognized and ridiculed wherever you go. All the kids in his town rail him, all the time. He could probably leave the country and still have people recognize him from that video. It crosses the line from teasing to slander and defamation, regardless of his age. He didn't consent to publish that video, nor did his parents.

if being teased at school was enough to warrant suing someone, I bet we'd all be able to cook up quite a class action suit.
:)

I laughed at the video too, and I also saw it as a kid being a kid, I actually kind of dug his bravado.

Geez imagine what else that poor kid would have endured had he also been a Shaolin-Do Student!?

The kid was interviewed by waxy.org and made no intimations that he was harrassed in school or elsewhere.

He (Ghyslain) also stated that he thought some of the redos of his film were "pretty cool". IN particular he like the star wars light sabre additions and the matrix version as well.

By the way, Ghyslain was pulled form school by his parents and it was his parents who initiated the lawsuit.

Methinks the parents were more humiliated than Ghyslain. Ghyslain got a free iPod delivered to him for being so cool about the vid release and he also received approximately 2000$ worth of future shop vouchers!

To bad those adults just don't have the sense of self-deprecating humour that ghyslain has. Just shows how petty people can be, and greedy as well. I think his folks just want to cash in on this for some chest puffing grief they have had to withstand.

grrr- stupid.

cheers

I read an article on this a few months back about the lawsuit, and to be honest, his friends tried to keep the computer he got. Ya see, $5000 was raised to buy him some IBook or something, and after the money got raised, his friends tried to get it shipped to one of them and not him. So even then his "friends" were being selfish little turds. I hope he wins, I hope he gets the $250,000 and those little snots have to pay up. They had no right what-so-ever to take his video and put it online and I'm glad they are being sued up the wazoo.

Good for the kid, tho it sounds more like the parents being money-grabbing weasels. Kid's probably got more fortitude than them, esp if he doesn't really give a monkey's.

It was **** funny tho! :D

Shlt, I'd make a video like that for a new laptop and an ipod. Besides, maybe he can pull some geek-booty now with his new found fame. Do rk girls need love to.

The funny thing is that all he needs to do is shed about 20lbs and wait a year or two and no one will recognise him anyway.

Sounds like stupid parents cashing in to me.

MSNBC just played the video and did a story about it. Seems people have started a petition to get him into the star wars 3, as they think it would ease the teasing. (of course they forget that that movie is going to suck major a$$ and he'll be teased for being in a crappy movie.)

Anywho, dont you think the parents could sue msnbc now, for getting their son national "humiliation" or something of the sort.

either way one of the best **** videos.

peace
