I'm curious about learning to play Xiangqi. I've been able to find the rules. Does anyone know a good place for a rank beginner to go and learn to get his asskicked? Maybe a good teaching program?

Yeah, I know this really should go in ORA.

If you can read chinese, you can try http://game.yam.com/chess.html

play chinese games online vs live chinese players. watch out for their xiangqi kungfu. you might get your butt smack!!

I can't read chinese, unfortunately. And I'm afraid I'm not much good at American Chess either. I don't mind getting trounced, but I'm going to be one boring opponent for anyone any good at all. I need some partners who either won't mind that, or suck almost as bad as I do.

Well, I think your best bet is to get a computer xiang qi program first and get good. I remember seeing a shareware in a maryland mall for xiang qi about six to seven years ago. so, they are out there.

I did a search on google and it seem that there are a couple of online xiang qi game (java based) for english speakers (e.g., http://www.cluck.com/xiangqi.html) May be you should do your own leg work. :)
