100 is a brainstorming goal - help out a Taoist fighting philospher, willya? Unless it is self explainatory lease describe why the paired classifications are complimentary, like Yin and Yang. I'll start

grappling (continuous contact with opponent) and striking (momentary contact with opponent)

confrontational (the opponent knows what's coming) and deceptive (the opponent doesn't know what's coming)

standing (both opponents on feet) and grounded (at least one opponent on back/side/belly)

hand/arm techniques and foot/leg techniques

strength techniques (using ones own energy) and leverage techniques (using the opponent's energy)

bare handed techniques and weapon techniques

circular movements and linear movements

okay, that's seven. Just ninety-three to go!

Fighting with the opponent (external) / fighting with your self (internal)

Fighting with the opponent (internal) / fighting with your self (external)

Intergender

Interspecies

Interracial

Interspousal

Intergalactic (ifinya believe in aliens)

Video (homage to Ralek)

Interrogative (rudely answering questions with more questions)

Interruptive (round fighting with bell interruptions)

Interprative (reenactments of historical battles such as Gettysburg, etc.)

Integral (fighting using integral elements such as weapons, fists, etc.)

Intelligent (fighting outnumbered, outclassed, out-firepowered, dimwitted, unconscious opponents only)

Into-losing (fighting where you just stand there and let your opponent beat the living crap out of you with no effort to stop him whatsoever)

Ingrate (fighting with no sense of thankfulness for your obvious advantages in situations where you are clearly winning)

Ingrown (taking advantage of your opponents poorly kept pedicurial health)

Ingram (fighting people with the last name "Ingram" exclusively)

Intollorance (fighting people for petty reasons like snoring, driving a Chevy instead of a Ford, having long hair, etc.)

Inbred (fighting because you happen to come from a State where most men are their own fathers and you're basically just mentally unbalanced)

In (fighting using the currently popular styles. BJJ fighting would be a modern example of "in" fighting)

I (smacking yourself silly)

(fighting with the Zen concept of emptiness)

Only 74 more to go!...

Oops! I missed the "complimentary" aspect of the original post.

Can anyone think of the "yins" to my "yangs" or vice versa in my last post?

P.S. That last sentence was NOT some kind of gay code. Please stick to the Taoist meanings only.

Okay, here's some ideas. Someone might need to help with the terminology here.

Within animal:
imitative vs. animal styles that focus on the spirit of the animal, not the movements(I believe hsing yi has such animal boxing, but I might be wrong)
Sorry, just realized that that is not necessarily complementary.
Okay, non-animal stuff:
open and close
medium range and short range
long range and medium range
strength and flexibility
mobility and rootedness/structure
form and fighting
iron body and evasion skills
hinge kicks and piston kicks
open hand and closed hand
press and pull
strikes and chin na
high stances and deep stances
endurance and speed
iron body and jow
meditation mindset and fighting mindset(though the argument could be made that these should be the same)
form and application
teacher and student
lesson and practice
student and (other)student
Okay, that's all I can think of right now.
