We were driving through Gatlinburg today (Don't go there. Ever.)Gatlinburg is the Reno of Tennessee. It's like a big shopping gambling amusement park wedding chapel street, packed with people who are missing teeth and are in serious violation of the lycra/spandex ordinance.

I saw a man cross the street with a yorkshire terrier strapped to his belly in one of these. (http://www.angelsonwheels.com/poochpack.htm)

The scrawny little dog was spread eagled, face out, attached to this guy's big ol' stomach. He wasn't riding a motorcycle, or doing anything where that contraption would have made sense, he was shopping. My first thought was "how'd his wife get him to wear that?" and I turned to my boyfriend and asked, "at what point did that man consent to having his c*ck removed?"

Call me old fashioned, but I like my men with a little dignity. Also, I love my pets, but I'm not going to walk around with one of them tied to my torso. That guy was owned.

what is that for??

one can just carry the dog in the arms
or
better
let the dog walk and get some healthy exercise

if the dog gets too tired
then one carries him

on the arms

Ming Yue.

You call a yorkshire terrier a dog??

It is a yapping nuisance that hopes it would be called a dog.

Dogs are way bigger and less annoying.

Anyway I've always been faschinated by jugoslavian wolf dogs. Not sure about the name but it's practically insane to have one as a pet.:D

Yugoslavian wolf dogs? Hmm...

I am aware of Croatian shepherd (http://www.mario-veterina.hr/pas/slike/SL12.jpg), Posavac hound (http://www.t19.ds.pwr.wroc.pl/~einstein/karty/zagr/europa/croatia/hr071.jpg), Dalmatian (http://www.t19.ds.pwr.wroc.pl/~einstein/karty/zagr/europa/croatia/hr003.jpg) of course, Istrian hound (http://www.t19.ds.pwr.wroc.pl/~einstein/karty/zagr/europa/croatia/hr072.jpg), but wolf dogs...

you're right. Yorkies are big rats with ribbons in thier hair.

Here's the dog we'd like to get someday. 175 lbs of yorkshire-eating best friend. :D

Leo (shown splashing in a creek above) is a great dane/lab mix. My ma's favorite, although when I get the space and means to have a companion critter I'll probably tend toward a squishnose type. I forget who got a Staffie a while back, but that's a nice choice. I'd just as soon get a rescue mutt, 'cause I like doing good deeds and am very interested in the idea of hybrid vigor (I don't like that purebreds have inbreeding problems, often aggravated by puppy mills and backyard breeders.)

Small and feisty is OK, too, like a basenji or rat terrier or along those lines. Big dog attitude in a small dog body, y'know.

Yes, I had cats!:D but thats more than 8 years ago. I dont support the idea of owning an animal as a pet, especially dogs. I think its sick.
other than that, its too late with withdrawing votes, when Ive been a mod for over a month:D

what happened to your labour day thread, CSN?

I like kitties, I have four of the little buggers. I despise mistreatment of animals in all forms.

no animals were harmed in the creation of this post.

:D

that said, you can strap a yorkie to your chest, or you can carry Mister Kitty around in one of these (http://www.curious3d.com/catcarrier.jpg).

" I dont support the idea of owning an animal as a pet, especially dogs. I think its sick."

Why is that? Canis familiaris is just that (a domestic dog) does not know of much else.It has been a journey,if not that long in geological time. :)

"Call me old fashioned, but I like my men with a little dignity. Also, I love my pets, but I'm not going to walk around with one of them tied to my torso. That guy was owned."

Hmmmm.

I wonder what the point is.

You may have not, they became extinct by miocene.

Now pet pigs is the übercoolest, along with Gigabunnies.

Ming Yue
09-01-2003, 02:41 PM
potbelly pigs... I know they're smart and all but they give me the creeps. I had a friend with one. The wiry sparse hair... yikes.

Pug dogs are one of the acceptable small breeds. They're freakishly adorable when they're not too walleyed.

I also have a pet turtle. Check out all his majesty. (http://www.curious3d.com/turtlelook.jpg)

Former castleva

They may be pretty hard to find.
The whole group is only moderately known,I think. But I´ll try.

There might have been other sites but this is where the actual fossils kick in;

Hope you can enjoy it,at least moderately.

I closed the labor day thread and moved it to the main forum, where I meant for it to be in the first place.

Genghis is an excellent example of the squishnoses I so adore (if a little on the puny side.)

Oso
09-01-2003, 10:08 PM
CSN, Genghis is not mine. Just a pic I found.

Recipe for a kick azz pug:

Get em as a pup.
Raise them with an adult Dane.
By the first birthday they are bigger than their father.

And tough. The one we had while I was in HS looked more like a bulldog than a pug.

one day...there are two different rescue groups in NC luckily.

Kristoffer -

my turtle is 4 years old. He's a red eared slider, about 8" long, when I got him he was about 2 inches - very very cute little guy.

He's great, when I put my hand in his tank he'll swim over and put his claw on my finger so I can haul him around the tank. He also likes it when I take him out in the yard and let him crawl around.

:)

Kristoffer
09-03-2003, 08:19 AM
Wow, sounds really cute.. My friend have two water turtles (I think the're called red-dot-necks or something similar)

What do u feed a turtle BTW? Something that looks like fish food right?

Ming Yue
09-03-2003, 09:02 AM
at least for my variety of aquatic turtle, they start out carniverous when they're little and become vegetarian as they get older.

he used to eat guppies, now he eats turtle pellets - they're about the size of bb's and they smell like fruit loops cereal. I also give him fresh fruit occasionally, he likes grapes and tomatoes the best.

I once wrote to a turtle owner's message board and asked how you can tell if you're overfeeding your turtle. They responded with,
"if the turtle goes into his shell, and the pudge comes out, he's too fat."

:D

FC, you've had hamsters? When I was a kid many of my classmates had these ugly critters and were pretty evil with them. Letting cats on em etc. Someone talked how he wanted to see if a hamster could swim so he threw it in his bathtub, thus, drowning the poor creature. What a dope.... But I'm not that big of a fan of hamsters since one of my cousins bit me in my nose.

Someday, I'll have a big ass turtle that eats hamsters.

What an idiot.Very lame.
They do not bite if you train and handle them properly.
(I still have hamsters).

I got to the turtle board through a general pet-owners site. once you get into the "alt.bin.whatever" stuff you can find a usergroup for anything and everything.

I was vacationing in the Outer Banks of North Carolina once and there was a HUGE snapping turtle in the road. I swear he sized up the truck like he was going to come after it. He was probably almost 2 feet across and his head was bigger than a fist. He would certainly have eaten a hamster. And the cage.
