hey all, I have to take a fitness test shortly, not sure when though. I'll be fine on the endurance/agility side of things, BUT...

I have to be able to push /pull 35 kgs on average, over five attempts. This doesn't sound too difficult. Surely the push will be just like a bench press?

The machine is a Dynomometer (sp?) and you're seated on it, with your back/front up against a rest for the push/pull respectively.

So what do you think, I don't do any weight training, apart from weight punching, but I have done a lot in the past, and I'm quite strong for my size (5'9" and 10 stone).

Easy peasy? Oh yeah, my grip strength has to exceed 35 kilos too..

Thanks, Scott

This is for the police right?

If so I really would not worry. Both guys I know who went though it had no problem with it.

If that's the one for the UK police, I've heard you also have to be able to throttle a black person with one hand... you might get lucky: they might choose a small child for you.

There are also innumerable thickening exercises, for the skin and the head.

They start right here on KFO...:D

Mat - there aren't many black people where I live so that's considered specialist training.

LMAO, good one...

Don't worry... they have plenty in stock...!:D

Seriously, good luck mate.

Keep your principles, and a big pile of salt to liberally take pinches of.

Most of the UK police I've met have been the most bigotted wankers in existance.

I've known only two from day one. One of my friends in college joined and she completely changed from someone who joined cos they generally thought they could make a difference, to someone who was suspicious and thought badly of everyone, especially minorities, ****, anyone different. Put me off joining.

The other one was a complete violent racist **** in the first place, and I saw him a few years later and he said he loved it, cos he could do what he wanted specifically in terms of violence and racism.

On the other hand, one of my aiki sempai who teaches practical defense and riot techniques all over the UK and Holland (and probably a few other places by now) and is a high-ranking officer from a police family, is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet, and paradoxically (but not wholly unexpectedly), one of the most calm and least violent guys I've ever met.

Takes all sorts. There just seems to be a majority of *******s there to start with!

You some kind of liberal or something?

Yeah I think the same as anything, some are ****s and some not.

I had an encounter with a PO once and he was a shinging example of fairness and reason. Ho hum.

Liokault, I've emailed you.

The test for the met police goes somthing like this.

A police guy holds up a 2 cards, one white and one black.

he asks which one did it.

if you answer the black one did it your in.

Scotty, sorry I think I delited your e-mail by mistake before I could read it.

British police are notoriously rascist. These guys are just making fun of that. For some reason the UK police force attracts the most bigotted twats available - it's a bit sad really, but what can you do?

I moved to Australia.

Not that I'm black or anything.

Yeah it does attract those sort of people, but that doesn't mean that they're not the minority. The negative aspects are always going to get more press.

There are racist cops everywhere, even in Australia! :D

Mat -

One of my friends in college joined and she completely changed from someone who joined cos they generally thought they could make a difference, to someone who was suspicious and thought badly of everyone

I am not a police officer but, through my work, I have lots of interaction with them. Think about it from their perspective - Almost everyone they deal with, while at work, is either another police officer or is guilty of something (from speeding to shoplifting, to drugs, or worse). So it only makes sense that they feel most people are guilty of something. An officer I know once told me "everyone is guilty of something, we just haven't caught them yet". Although he was joking - it does say alot about their mindset.

Do you really think that police officers think that? I would venture to say that a lot of police have the mindset of protecting non-criminals from criminals, rather than thinking everyone is a criminal.

Maybe not in Phoenix, lol :)
