what benifit one has studying chinese history?

some will say every one have their own perspective.
some will say every one search for evidents for they needed...
True... different people doing different things.
However, that is not what the Ancient Chinese believe in.
Often, chinese historians rather killed by the emperor instead of writing pro-emperor his-story.

So, the ancient chinese's attitude towards studying History is that history is a mirror. and one can see oneself from this mirror.
Horses has turned into car. Pigeont uses for sending letter has turned into Cell phone. But, the human being's attitude remain very similar... as the Chinese historian said, mix pleasure/sentiment with business or making decision based on sentiment or who is closed to one not on factual.

There interesting issues if one looks into recent Chinese history such as.

1, MIng was destroyed buy Chinese not By Qing. But, some people always blame Qing for it.
Ming emperor were using lots of Unix(sp?) as intelligent to remote control ... not trusting the generals.... so the corupted official unix who were close to emperor control the operation of country. People starting revolution and then the revolutionist Lee Zhe-Chen conque BeiJing and the last ming emperor hang himself. the place where Lee Zhe-Chen drive his people army into Beijing was erected a statue of Lee today. one can still visit there. Then, the General Wu SAn Kui who was negotiating with Qing instead of obey the Ming Emperor to go back to Beijing for help open the gate of the great war to invite Qing to come into rule China. Then, Later, General Wu and another two Ming generals who had also become Qing's princes located in southern China. and later,,, they later fight against Qing due to power dispute... so starting another battle with Qing, and lost.

Fan Qing Fu Ming (over turn Manchurian and return to Ming dynasty) , cannot be said as totally non sense, since indeed there are mascara of Chinese when the Qing rule China and indeed there are good people who is helping and protecting local chinese within the operation. and indeed general similar with zhen Cheng-Kong fight hard trying to secure southern china but he end up has to re locate to Taiwan.

So, why blame the Qing?

2, Shao Lin rebeling?
after Qing control China. Shao Lin was praised in a high place, on one hand the first 3 emperor of Qing were buddhist. on another hand, Qing place thier control in Shao Lin.

Qing Knows Shao Lin has martial monk but using buddist Lama system as Martial monk after Qing conque China. If one looks at the plaque of Shao Lin or the temple of Emei, one can find out the emperor gave these buddhist temple plaque... so what is the chances about the burning of Shao lin and Northern Shao Lin rebeling?
In fact, the 3rd emperor straightern up some Chan buddhsim problems and one can find top buddhist monk were in the palace of Qing teaching the emperor and Royal family...

So, is the Shao Lin uprising for rebelling? or just a few people who uses the name of Shao Lin to rebell? To these day, people claim the finding of Southern Shao Lin.... and certainly since my own grand father was from Putien area of Fujian. Southern Shao Lin must be has some truth. However, are they really against Qing?

3, was Shao Lin martial art the "it" in Ming dynasty?
if one read the militant book edited by General Qi Chee-Kuang, Ming's general, 1500's, who fight against Japanese pirates who invating southern China, one will find out Shao Lin is famous on pole but hand to hand combat was not mention. the Ming generals before Qi was losing badly to the Japanese pirate using the japanese sword. Martial artists of Ming were recruited for help but didn't help much. Thus, later, General Qi took on the operation of organizing millitant art an training.... then General Qi defeated the Japanese

So, what the hand to hand combat systems of martial art were popular in Ming dynasty? Shao Lin? or Shao LIn is great with the pole only as in general Qe's book.

The journey begun...

and we might be able to rebuilt , similar to the mummy scholars, the trend and development of WCK....from there.

I just saw the movie, the Sino-Dutch War 1661, starring Zhao Wen Zhuo as the famous Zheng Chenggong (Koxinga). It was a pretty cool movie for me (a Chinese history buff).

It's funny how history interprets him. Even though he was something of a pirate, his patriotic spirit has turned him into a hero. The mainland Chinese hail him as a liberator of Taiwan; the Taiwanese celebrate him as a symbol of Taiwanese independence. Talk about irony...

Anyway, it is an interesting movie that might interest you if you want to see the framework for the legendary beginnings of Wing Chun.
