yeah, brown recluse is bad news, worse than a black widow. Studies suggest that 20 percent of bite victims contract severe skin ulcerations and pain and the suckiest thing is that there is no known cure. I saw a show once where a few people were using bee sting therapy and swear it has alleviated the pain but man they had some of the nastiest gaping wounds.

Just so you guys know. Brown Recluse Spider bites DO NOT HURT. The spider can bite you and you will not feel anything until the venom starts to work on the tissues around the bite area.

Be careful if you live in an area where the spiders inhabit.


Black Widow bites are the total opposite. You will have a SHARP pain when bitten.

Both spiders cause numerous health problems every year with people getting bit.

outside of the brown recluse, I'd be worried if I didn't see spiders in or around my house. (not like arachnaphobia many though) they keep out a majority of the bugs that would otherwise be much worse.

Seen four brown recluse bites in Vermont over the last twenty years. Last one was last summer. The infected areas ranged from 1 1/4" to 3 3/4" in diameter. Left big scars. Stay away from brown spiders.
