After boxing class, and to a lesser degree wrestling class, my arches and insteps ache like nobody's business. I suspect this is due to the muscles being weak, because I spent several months off my feet after breaking bones in my right foot. I'm not sure how to exercise these muscles to build them up, though. Any suggestions?

Calf raises maybe?
Id definately suggest some high quality insoles as well.

Edit: I have crappy knees and pretty weak ankles (from breaking them) and the 50$ pair of insoles I bought made a world of difference... a little pricey, but I gotta say well worth it.

Heel raises off the edge of a step might help, especially if you can do them one-legged without holding onto anything.

Jumping rope would be good after some strength has returned. Doing them at the beginning might be too much though.

And don't forget stretching.

there's a Yoga pose that's basically the bottom position of the Hindu Squat, except your hands are on your hips. You hold it for a minute or two. It's very good for the arches and the toes.
