i just moved to Brandon, Florida, a town that is east of the Tampa/St.Petersburg area in Florida. i am looking for suggestions on teachers in the area. the closest city is Tampa. i am just looking for good kung-fu, i dont care if it is someones backyard. most of my experience has been mantis, but i just want a good teacher. one of my co-workers used to do mantis in tampa, but told me what he was being taught was a waste of time, he also told me of one or two other places that taught mantis, also wing chun. anyway, he didnt know too much about these other schools and i plan to visit, but maybe you guys could give more suggestions. thanks for the help.

http://www.brandonkungfu.com - Mi Zong Luo Han, Brandon
http://www.wahlum.org/ - Wah Lum, Tampa
http://www.clearsilat.com/silat/Schools/SouthTampa.htm - Silat, Tampa
http://www.studykungfu.com - primarily Mi Zong Luo Han and Ying Zhao, but also offering Chen Taiji, Yin Bagua, Xing Yi, Qigong - Dunedin

I can't vouch for any of these schools except the one in Dunedin, which I attend. (If you're interested in driving all the way to Dunedin, I can get you a free month.)

Hi Focal,

Great area, enjoy the traffic?

Master`s Kung Fu & Tai Chi
(813) 610-4825
Shrfu Art D`Agostino

Note: It is possible that Art is only doing personals now, and this number might not be good, give it go. Tainan Mantis probably knows how to get in touch with him, worth a try.

Pong Lai Martial Arts
4817 N. Lois ave.
Suite 105
Tampa (813) 872-6113
Shrfu John Scolaro

Good luck!

Your best bet is Pong lai in tampa. Contact john scolaro at:
813-872-6113.
I suggest setting up an appointment with him to talk about your training and plans.
He is in Singapore right now but will be back on sunday.

I do not attend this school, but I am a Wah Lum student up in Gainesville. As with any martial arts school, I would highly recomend watching a class and talking with the instructor.

The Chinese Martial Arts Center in Dunedin teaches Chen style - that's the closest one of which I know.

Olethros

Is your teacher Dale Herring? If so, count your blessings. You are lucky to have this opportunity to train with one of the few hard cores in Wah Lum. Shrfu Dale has a God given talent of superior quality. In my opinion, P. Chan should put him in the forefront, along with Shrfu Leroy Kautz, of course. :)

Their taiji is directly from William C. C. Chen.
